The idol in your heart
Ezekiel 14:4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;
Idolatry is the worship of someone or something other than God as though it were God. The first of the biblical Ten Commandments prohibits idolatry: “You shall have no other gods before me.” Anything you place above God is an idole. There are many idols we struggle with and many of them creep into our lives without us even realising it. Some may be Family, wealth, prosperity, career success, image, romance, safety and security, talents/gifts, position, fame etc.
These has brought separation between us and God even when we believed we are still in God.
In Ezekiel 14:1 Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me. 14:2 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 14:3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?
The elders of Israel came to the man of God to seek direction from the Lord. You would have thought that somebody who needed to go and see a prophet would mean well by doing so, but they went there with idols in their hearts, and because they had idols in their hearts, the Lord said the reply they would get would be according to the idols that were already in their hearts.
That is, if anyone has an idol inside his heart, and he goes to a prophet for information, God would ask that prophet to answer him according to the idol in his heart and the person ends up getting the wrong information.
They already have their heart clinged to the lust of the flesh, yet they will come to test the spirit of the Lord and wish God speaks in the direction of their heart.
Many have ended up in unprofitable career or business, many into marriages God didn't ordained even though their prophets gave a positive response when they seek the Lord... The prophets are not to blame because it was God's will.
When you choose to walk in the direction of the idol in your heart, neglecting the will of God for your life, God himself will package visions, dreams and prophecies to seal your will.... But the end will always disastrous.
The idol in your heart could be the reason you have a failed marriage, business, spiritual attacks etc. Because you choose to worship things lesser than God, rejecting his will and following the desire of your heart.
Check your life, what has taken the place of God in your heart, until you unseat them and give the throne of your heart to God, you will continue to be deceived and live in struggle and perpetual darkness outside God's will.
The idol in your heart is capable of destroying your soul in hell, repent today so you can be back in God's will.
