Lay down every weight
Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Runners in preparation for races would carry weights in order to strengthen their muscles for the race. The weights, however, would weigh them down where they could not run at their full potential.
When the final race arrived, they laid the weights aside. There are many things that can hinder a believer from running the race of faith in Christ Jesus
1. Evil communication or association
1 Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
The Deception in the verse above is in the fact that many thinks they can keep company with those who live and believe contrary to fundamental teachings of Christ Jesus and not be influenced by their behavioural attitudes, apostle paul cautioned that associating with those who practices evil will eventually makes a righteous becomes evil.
1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
The faithful believers should not condone, fellowship, eat with or associate with any disciples who practices the sins that apostle paul listed in this verse. This sins violates the fundamental behavioural laws by which the Christians must direct their life.
2. Lustful desires.
1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever
Lust will keep you distracted from the race towards the goal of eternal life, it will also make you lost from the divine program of God, there is no way you can run the race in Christ while still holding unto the lust of the flesh, world, and lust of the eyes.
3. Unconfessed sins.
Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
Living in a life of Unconfessed sins will weigh you down from the race of righteousness God has set before us. The devil use it to tie us to one position without moving forward and growing in Christ Jesus
No matter how light you may see your weight to be, it can never give you ability to run the race of faith set before you in Christ Jesus.
Lay down every weight and be inclined with God through Christ Jesus, only then, will you be able to finish the race as Christ expected.
God bless you.
