The fear of God
Day 1: The begining of Wisdom
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Fearing the Lord means to be in reverent awe of His holiness, to give Him complete reverence and to honor Him as the God of great glory, majesty, purity and power
On of the major commands in the old testament is the command to fear the Lord, this has been passed from generation to generations, even after the children of Israel were brought out of Egypt, Moses reminded them of the essence of fearing the Lord.
Deuteronomy 6:24 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.
The fear of the Lord unlocks the store house of spiritual wisdom, our spiritual Understanding begins when we walk with God with fear and reverence for Him.
There are elements of the fear of God.
1. Obedience
The first element of Fearing God is to obey all His commands whether it is convenient or not, weather it is reasonable or not, all He desires from us is to obey whatever He says.
The obedience of Moses to lead the children of Israel to the promised land unlock the supernatural power of God in him which is manifested in the numerous signs and wonders he performed.
The same obedience pull down the walls of Jericho which can never be pull down by their own weapons and strength. But the wisdom of God was made available by just walking round it and shouting for joy. What a mystery to fear God.
2. Holiness
Our God is holy and just, if we fear him then our life will be a replica of His divine nature of holiness, we will live in purity as we walk with him.
We can't claim we fear Him and still indulge in sin, we can't say we fear him and the works of the flesh still manifest in our life. Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
3. Love
The love of God is pure and true, selfless and sacrificial, it knows no bond, it extends to us even when we do not know him. This same love opens the gate of heaven to us through the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As believers who fear God, this same love of God must be evident in our life as we relate with others.
What the fear of God does.
1. Spiritual Knowledge
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
The fear of God gives knowledge to the simple hearted, it reveals mysteries of God's words. True knowledge is only granted to those who fear Him.
2. Divine wisdom.
When we fear the Lord, He will reveal what our common knowledge could not reval to us. King Solomon feared God at the begining of his reign, God unlocks the door of wisdom unto him, and no one on earth has ever matched his wisdom.
Through fear and trembling John the beloved was shown the revelation of the kingdom of God and what to come at the end of ages.
If you desire to launch into the depths of the spiritual knowledge available to you through God’s Word, begin by humbling yourself before God with an attitude of deep reverence and holy fear. Your understanding of scripture is directly related to your understanding of your place before God.
Your life and living can only make a difference if you desire the fear of God and walk according to His laid down rules.
Fear God and wisdom shall fill your barn.
God bless you.
