Maintain your leadership position
Matthew 20:26 But among you it is quite different. Anyone wanting to be a leader among you must be your servant.
A leader is someone who can see how things can be improved and who rallies people to move toward that better vision. Leaders can work toward making their vision a reality while putting people first. Just being able to motivate people isn't enough — leaders need to be empathetic and connect with people to be successful.
Being a leader is a privilege, it is an opportunity to serve, to coordinate and to make the life of their people better that what it was. It is not about controlling and giving command, it is mentoring and guiding towards greatness.
V26, Jesus Christ is teaching the disciples when there was a murmuring about who is to be the leader. He thought them on the qualities of who a leader should be
Matthew 20:26 But among you it is quite different. Anyone wanting to be a leader among you must be your servant. Jesus Christ emphasise that, a call to be a leader is a call to serve, a call to put others first.
Jesus Christ practice this while on earth , being among the disciples does not make him more superior in identification even while being a God in man, it is very difficult to identify Christ among the disciples because they do everything the same way.
To be a good leader and maintain your leadership position you must understand the following.
1. Have the fear and love of God.
God is supreme, He is faithful and compassionate, God loves everyone equally irrespective of their colour, race, language or believe. A leader must show the characteristics of the person of God in leading the people. A leader must be able to love everyone under him equally, without being hypocritical. In all he/she do, the fear of God must be at heart.
2. Be compassionate.
To be compassionate is to feel deeply for another person as they experience the ups and downs associated with life. It is to suffer together, you experience what they are experiencing. You do not separate yourself from the pain of others.
Everything the disciples went through, christ also did, in hunger, in pain. In suffering, in persecution, and in death. Being a leader is being compassionate..
3. The success of the people determine your success as a leader.
You can't measure your success as a leader by your personal life success, your success is measured by the success of the people you are leading.
Many leaders neglect the people they are leading and showcase their fleets of wealth and riches they acquire, yet their people wallow in extreme poverty
Moses while leading the children of Israel from Egypt to the promise land did not see himself as successful even when having the assurance of a place with God....
Many times God wanted to destroy the people for their misdeeds, yet Moses would pray in intercession for them... Just for everyone of them to reach the land of promise.. Even though he himself could not get there, He never fail to make plans for their successful journey. What a great leader..
As a leader today, are you maintaining your leadership position?
You have been privileged to be a leader at one place or the other, no matter how small or great the position may be, it is a call to serve, a call to mentor, a call to guide people to their success.
Don't miss-use your position as if no one can challenge your authority and office, if no one can, remember the person who wil not only challenge your authority alone but also take away your life in just a seconds.
Don’t be selfish; don’t live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. Don’t just think about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and in what they are doing. (Philippians 2:3-4)
The position you are, someone was there before you and you won't be there forever
If you are a leader, lead well
If you are a minister, minister well
If you are a teacher, then teach well
If you are a pastor, pastor well
If you are a mentor, mentor well
If you are a governor, govern well.
If you are a civil servant, be civil in all you do
If you are a president, preside well..
In whatever form of a leader you find yourself, do it well.
Let all be done with the fear of God, for everyone will give account of their stewardship.
Maintain your leadership position, don't be a terror to the people you are leading.
God bless you.
