Charity

2 Corinthians  9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

Charity is the act of giving help to those in need of it. It is a humanitarian act. It involves giving money, goods or time and effort to those who need it. It is done without expecting something in return. Giving money or food to poor people is an example of charity.

Charity is not a business investment that is done in expectation of profit or gain, it is not done to receive the praise of man, it is done from the depth of one's heart without expecting any return.

Charity is one of the fruit of the spirit that Every believer most possess, it is the highest form of love, signifying the reciprocal love between God and man that is made manifest in unselfish love of one’s fellow men.

It is not only in giving money, it involves giving of goods and services like prayer intercession, volunteering, counselling etc It is an act that registers a record before God, sometimes He can use our act of charity to save us from trouble if we did it with good intentions and godly motives.

Consider the life of Dorcas

Acts  9:36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.

This woman was a disciple, she was blessed by God with many resources, the scripture  recorded that she was full of good works and alms giving, she loves the poor, so also believes whatever she has is not only for her but for everyone around her.

one day, she became sick and died... ,Acts  9:37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber..

They sent for Peter believing that by faith He would raise her up, Acts  9:39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

Because of her charity work, the Elders made a request on her behalf, the tears of the widows she had helped went up before the throne of God and brought back her spirit. She was raised from the dead because of her works of charity.

Consider the man called Cornelius

Acts  10:1 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,  10:2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

He was a devoted man, and one that feared God, himself and all his household, it was recorded of him that he gives much alms to people and prayed to God,

He didn't do it for sight seeing unlike many do today, he didn't do it in other to get recognition by the government or in other to get a public position. He did it with a godly motive

His act of charity made God to visit Him and his household, Acts  10:3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.  10:4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.

God confirms his charity works, and promised him a rear gift... The Holy sprit, he was continually blessed all through his life.
