Spiritual Checkup
2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
Some years back my mom decided to go for medical checkup, when asked, she said she just felt like she should. So she went to the hospital to be examined. Upon all the test did on her, the doctor adviced she should be admitted for some days in other to correct some things in her body system and have a good time rest.
But, before she went to the hospital everyone believes nothing was wrong with her, physically she is very fit, she even went to the hospital all by her self.
To the best of my knowledge, she has never been admitted nor sick before, but only the doctor could confirm she needed rest and few medications. Believe me, she spent almost two weeks on bed rest. Her health issues was detected on time before it became serious and was corrected accordingly.
In like manner, we also must constantly go for spiritual checkup, a spiritual checkup is the cross examination of our spiritual life to know our stance in God. This will reveal our level of faith in Him, our obedience to His word, and our level of righteousness in Him.
The life of a believer in Christ should be of progress and growth, we can never be too sure we are growing and progressive by just fulfilling the spiritual activities made available in religion. 2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
Many are fit physically but are sick and dead spiritually, though people see them a well outspoken in the word, very versatile in prayers and fasting, but they are spiritually sick.
Many ministers are spiritually down yet they conduct crusades, vigils, series of prayer sessions, conduct deliverance on many cases whereas they themselves need spiritual cleanliness.
It is believed medically that it is not the day sickness hooked you down and admitted you got sick, you must have been sick for days with few symptoms but failed to give concern to it. So also spiritually, it is not the day you fall into sin and taken over by the devil was the day it started, there must have been series of waning signals,
The question is, are you fit spiritually?, and how do you know you are fit spiritually?
1. If your thirst for God in the past is greater than your thirst for him in your present walk with Him, then you are dying spiritually.
Apostle Paul, Despite being spiritually mature , and privileged with spiritual experiences, in a letter days of his life he wrote to the believers at philippi , he said: “I want to know Christ…” (Phil. 3:10).
One would ask What was Paul talking about? Did he not already know Christ better than most of the early disciples? Of course he did! But the more he got to know Jesus, the more he wanted to know him. The more he progressed in his spiritual walk, the thirstier he became! Is that your experience? Do you have a growing desire to know Christ better? Do you yearn to experience more of his grace and love? If not, then you are sick and dying spiritually.
2. If you struggle to obey God's instructions, it means you are sick and dying spiritually.
This is one of the symptoms of being sick and awaiting death spiritually. Deuteronomy 11:1“Therefore you shall love the Lord your God, and keep His charge, His statutes, His judgments, and His commandments always.
Constantly, God keeps us in-check with His instructions which are made available in His words, prophecy, visions and dreams and word of knowledge. But pride and self-will has made many to reject the instructions of God and has made them cut off from the source of their spiritual life.
3. If you desire more of the world and flesh and its merriment than the kingdom of God, then you are dying.
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you., if your desire to seek all other things is greater than the kingdom of God, they you are sick and dying spiritually...
It does not matter who you are, if you focus more on all other things which are not limited to strong desire for prosperity, signs and wonders, prophecies from men of God, praises of men, followers and large congregation etc then you are spiritually sick and dying.
4. If the works of the flesh constantly manifest in your life without you being remorseful, then you are sick and dying.
Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
There is danger if you fall into temptation, but there is greater danger if you are not remorseful or not willing to come out of the temptation.
Many ministers and believers are walking corpse spiritually because the consciousness of God's spirit is dead in them, so they rejoice in sin, and cover up with their gifts and religious activities, its in due time before Satan finally completes its work in them.
Whoever that will allow the doctor to check him up must be ready to surrender his/her total body and be ready to accept whatever the doctor will say, because he's a professional..
For you to go through spiritual checkup, you must be ready to submit yourself totally to the authority of God's examinations, test and scans which are made available in His words, fasting and prayers.
You never can tell you are perfectly fit spiritually until you see yourself in the mirror of God's words..2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Finally when He gives result of all test and scan done in you, don't argue with Him, take the medications of forgiveness, restitution, new walk with Him, fasting and prayers, obedience to His words, instructions and righteous living in Him which are prescribed.
By this you stay in balance in your walk with God.
