Mercy, not by Qualification

Romans  9:15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.  9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

In clear terms, God's mercy means His pity, compassion, and kindness toward people. The mercy of God reflect His love, a kind of love  that responds to human need in an unexpected or unmerited way.

No one is actually qualified for His mercy at any point, God's demonstration of mercy is a channel through which He manifest His glory over man.

Our work, our righteousness, services to God, giving, and many other religious activities is never a qualification to attract God's mercy over our life.

In several ways God has shown mercy unto us even when we least deserve it

1. In His anger

Our life is always full of sin, after God's commandment not to sin, man  most times deliberately walk into sin. Adam and Eve did in the garden of Eden, thier sinful act provokes God's anger, yet He still manifest His mercy over them, His relationship was not totally cut off away from them.

2. In safety and protection
Where Many perish, His mercy protected you, it is not because of your faithfulness or righteousness. Diseases killed many, accident took away many, some were kidnapped and many were murdered, but you are safe despite all these.... It is not by your good deeds.... Lamentations  3:22 It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

3. His mercy revealed at salvation
The Bible says for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, yet his mercy brought us  salvation and with the price of the only begotten Son of God, That whoever can acknowledge His love which is revealed in the birth, death and resurrection of His son will be saved, no matter how deep the person might have gone in sin.

Where the judgment condemns, mercy exult

Where sin kills, the mercy of God brings to life

It can be prayed for.

Even though there is no qualification we may have that can justify us for God's mercy, but it can be prayed for.

Praying for God's mercy is coming to God with a humbled heart of soberness and referencing His supremacy over our life, believing our powers, knowledge, wisdom and understanding cannot save us,  asking for His show of love through His son Jesus Christ.

Bartimaeus pleaded for mercy, for his sight to be restored, even when he was not qualified to attract Jesus's attention, yet his voice reaches the ears of  Christ and with love He stopped and had mercy on him by restoring His sight.

The thief on the cross does not deserve to be with Christ in paradise,  he was a thief condemned to death by the law and shouldn't have a place in the eternal life, yet when he prayed with a heart of humility and forgiveness, Jesus gave him a direct visa to paradise without a price.

No amount of your anointing, religious activities, numbers of years in service can actually bring God's blessing, safety, salvation or whatsoever, but it is God's mercy

So then, God’s blessings are not given just because someone decides to have them or works hard to get them. They are given because God takes pity on those he wants to. (Romans 9:16)

It was not your qualification that brought you this far, but God's mercy. So be humble.

God bless you.
