Lust
1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
In general meaning, LUST is an intense or unbridled sexual desire, an uncontrollable strong appetite for sex. The body do not stop until it satisfy this desire, most time it results to rape.
But this message will not be limited to sexual desire but other forms through which man exhibit lust.
Looking at the different words used in the original text of the Bible, Koine Greek, that are translated ‘lust.’ One is “pathos,” a word for desires, not just sexual, but those of the body - for food, for comfort, for ease, and Another is “epithumia” a word for desires that are stronger, cravings of our various appetites.
In all the meanings given, there are two words common to all of them which is STRONG DESIRE, a means to satisfy the cravings of the flesh in a manner which is against the will of God.
Many marriages are founded on lust today instead of the true love of God, they are derived by the physical appearance of the body... While the true love is rooted in God and last forever, lust is just a feeling that overpowered the body for a little time, and when it has be satisfied, it vanishes.
In other way we exhibit lust is "loving the world"
The book of 1 John expose our mind to understand the danger of loving the world. 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Lust of the flesh:
In the world there are temptations that are produced in one's life that is drawn away from the love of God to satisfy the desires of the flesh in an ungodly manner. Ephesians 3:2
Lust of the eyes:
Temptations are often produced by looking upon things in an evil manner contrary to the will of God. Mathew 5:28
Danger of Lust.
Eve lust after the Fruit contrary to the commands of God for them in the garden, she took of it and her eyes was opened, God placed a curse on her afterwards. Gen. 3:6
Gehazi lust after the gifts that was brought by Naaman after he was healed of his leprosy, it was in God's command through prophet Elisha no to collect offerings and gifts, but Gehazi lust after it until he got it, but he got something much more, which is the leprosy of Naaman. 2kings 5:22
David lust after bathsheba until he slept with her, that act also leads to murder, just like many are doing today... It arouses God's anger and he was not spared of the judgment despite being the man behind God's heart. 2 Samuel 12:11
What about Samson, the most powerful man ever known lust after Delilah through her beautify, his life was cut shut and a one time powerful man was brought low. Judges 16:21
Check withing yourself and see what you are lusting after today. Is it wealth, fame, riches, gifts and offering, signs and wonders, beautify of women or handsomeness of men, all this will bring destruction to your life and soul if you do not repent today.
Lust is a sin before God, desist from it and feed your body and spirit with the will of God enshrined in His words.
Lust is like a cancer, if you allow it to take root in your body, it will destroy your life even unto your soul.
Repent today before it is too late.
