The bitterness of drunkenness
Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Drunkenness is the lose of control of one's senses because of the intoxicating influence of alcohol.
To drink wine is not a sin, but becoming drunk with wine is sin.. God gave man pleasure in all ways, but excessiveness is a sin before Him.
Drunkenness causes many bad effects on its subject,
1. It makes one to be mocked...
Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
Intoxicating drinks overcome the undisciplined, and then lead people to uncontrolled behaviour, it becomes a means of mockery to a drunkard who finds himself in a shameful act in public... It reduces the integrity and prestige of a man.
2. Poverty
Proverbs 23:21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
Becoming a drunkard is being addicted with wine, anyone who cannot control his intake lacks discipline which will eventually leads to poverty. All the time and resources that would have been used to make a good living will constantly be spent on wine which adds no value to life and living.
3. Disorderly living.
Genesis 9:21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. 9:22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
A drunkard's life is always disorganised, he becomes irresponsible to the family, friends and neighbourhood.
After the flood, Noah got himself drunk and became naked, an elderly man became naked without shame, because his senses has been manipulated by the intoxication of alcohol.
His singular act made Harm his son to make gest of him and that brought curses to the life of Cannan the son of Harm forever.
5. Death
Many has met their untimely death as a result of drunkenness, many drove into accident while many met their Waterloo as a result of uncontrollable utterances.
Negative spiritual results of drunkenness
1. Dis-fellowship from church
1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
A drunkard shouldn't be in a company of the believers because of his/her uncontrolled way of life... It brings shame to the name of Christ.
2. Rejection from kingdom
1 Corinthians 6:10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
It is written, a drunkard shall not inherit the kingdom of God,
3. Eternal damnation Gal. 5:19-22
Galatians 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Drunkenness is one of the works of the flesh which will lead anyone with its character to hell of there is no caution.
Check your life, drunkenness make one's life miserable, it deter the Holy spirit and the presence of God.
God gave wine for the benefit of man, but an uncontrolled desire is a sin.
Repent today, before it is too late.
