Trust in the Lord

Psalms  118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

To trust means to rely on another person because you feel safe with them and have confidence that they will never  hurt, disappoint, betray or violate you.

To trust in the Lord means more than believing in who he is and what he says; the word here for trust can also mean “to have confidence in.” Having confidence in something means having an assurance that leads to action. Trust in the Lord is a faith that lets us boldly serve.

Our God is a supreme being, the creator of the universe, He is a jealous God, He expects us to put all our trust, care, confidence, and faith in Him and not anyone or any man.

There is no gain or blessing that resides in putting our confidence in man, the Lord rebukes anyone who put his/her  confidence in his fellow man.   Jeremiah  17:5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.  17:6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. Jeremiah tells us here the consequences of trusting in man. It brings curse and dryness.

The blessings of putting one's trust in the Lord is enormous, the Lord explains what we tend to benefits if we put our trust in Him.
Jeremiah  17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.  17:8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.  17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?  17:10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

Some of the reason we should put our trust in the Lord includes

1. GOD CANNOT CHANGE BUT MEN ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE . Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” a loving and caring person today, May change to be a wicked and uncaring tomorrow.
Mal 3:6 “For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed”

2. MEN CAN LIE BUT GOD CANNOT Lie Numbers 23: 19 - God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?    Lies is one of the works of the flesh, it is in the nature of man, most of man's promises are founded in lies and deceit, putting one's trust in such  will result in disappointment.

3. MEN CAN FAIL BUT GOD CANNOT FAIL Romans 4: 21 - And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. God can never fail, and he has never fail in His promises. But man can fail countless a number of times because he is subjected to the earth realm

4. GOD IS FAITHFUL … MEN ARE NOT FAITHFUL
Hebrews 11: 11 - Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

5. GOD IS A FINISHER
Isaiah 40: 28 - Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

6. GOD IS OMNISCIENT … MAN IS LIMITED IN HIS KNOWLEDGE
Hebrews 4: 13 – Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

7. GOD CANNOT FORGET HIS PROMISE BUT MEN CAN EASILY FORGET THEIR PROMISE
Isaiah 49: 15-16 – Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

8. GOD CANNOT AND WILL NEVER BETRAY OUR CONFIDENCE
Hebrews 13: 5 - Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

As you continue the journey of your life, put your trust in God and not man, and you will never be disappointed and betrayed.

God bless you.
