Sanctification

Psalms  51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.  51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.  51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.  51:13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.  51:14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

To sanctify is literally “to set apart for special use or purpose,” figuratively “to make holy or sacred,” and etymologically from the Latin verb sanctificare which in turn is from sanctus “holy” and facere “to make.”

Sanctification is the natural outgrowth of the gospel and being saved by Christ. It  is not a means of receiving grace but an expression of thanks for grace that has been received.

It  is a provision of God’s renewing work in salvation joined to our obedience. And it is accomplished by renewing our minds so that we change the way we live — we don’t pursue sin but we do pursue righteousness.

Sanctification means having our motives changed as well as our actions. The goal and purpose of all sanctification is to glorify and honor God.

sanctification is that act of God, subsequent to regeneration, by which believers are made free from original sin, or depravity, and brought into a state of entire devotement to God, and the holy obedience of love made perfect.

It is wrought by the baptism with the Holy Spirit, and comprehends in one experience the cleansing of the heart from sin and the abiding, indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, empowering the believer for life and service. Entire sanctification is provided by the blood of Jesus, is wrought instantaneously by faith, preceded by entire consecration; and to this work and state of grace the Holy Spirit bears witness.

Sanctification is for the Christian who is not just trying to get by spiritually – but who wants to please God in every way and be all he can be for the Lord.

This is possible firstly, God must cleanse us from sin. Then, he heats us in the crucible of experience. Finally, he anoints us with his Holy Spirit and we are finally prepared to fully serve Him. Sanctification is more than being cleansed. It is being cleansed AND prepared for God’s service.

This process means that  God first, breaks our will, then purifies and cleanses us, then He is able to fill us with Himself. Until our wills are broken, He can not use us as He desires. He can not produce the fruit of the Spirit in our lives as He wants to.

David prayed to be sanctified, seeking for a new spirit different from the old nature of sin, and to this purpose is to be able to teach others the ways of God and make sinners converted from the ways of sin to the righteousness of God.

You can't be used of God without being sanctified, sanctification redefines our desire from our own will to God's ultimate will and purpose.

Be satisfied so God can use you for His glory. God bless you.
