Created in God's image
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
In God's creation of man, He didn't create humans as a specimen or a test subject for greater project, man was actually created in the likeness and image of God, having the same attribute as God in the realm of earth.
His purpose for creating man is to be and function in His image, this includes dominion, fruitfulness, multiplication, replenishing and to subdue.
When you represent someone, everything you do reflects on that person. God created humanity to represent Him and to declare His glory. The command to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:26) was a command to spread God's glory as His image-bearers to the ends of the earth.
Just as God have dominion in His kingdom over the heavenly beings so also God wants man to have dominion over the earth beings, having the full authority over every other things created. An expression of this was seen when Adam was called to name all animals created both in the see, on land and in the air.
In other attribute of man representing God's image, man was given the authority to subdue the earth and everything we will ever make out of this earth, this means, we must conquer and bring under control everything we invent out of God's creation,
But it is sad today that just as God gave us the authority to be His image bearer, we gave the authority out to the devil, he then conquer us through sin and subdue our ways of life till death.
You were created to enjoy God and reflect His glory. You and I made shipwreck of that holy calling. Yet, God lovingly acted to redeem and restore us in Jesus Christ. Our only fitting response is to turn from life in Adam and, by faith, walk in our new life in Christ.
You can't have the full potential and power that resides in bearing God's image if you still live a life of sin. Christ has given back to man the authority at calvary, all you have to do is humble yourself before Him and accept him as your Lord and saviour. Else, devil will continue to rule and subdue you anytime anyday.
