Rewards of doing good

Luke  6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Doing good is not a mere side-line in the Christian life. It is a basic principle of Christian living, its one of the attributes of God which is evidence in the character of Christ and expected of every believer to emulate.

Our act  of kindness must be expressed towards another at any point in time irrespective of who they are, even if they appear to be our enemy.  In doing this, we are fulling God's desire of peace to reign among humanity, and a means of helping those who are in needs.

Nevertheless, our act of doing good will not go by without a reward if we do it with the whole of our heart towards fellow men. good deeds are indeed only rewarded by God not man but God still uses man to accomplish his purposes.

The Bible states that because of the kindness that Jonathan showed unto David, his son, Mephibosheth received a blessing as a reward from God through David (2 Samuel 9:3 - " The king then asked him, "Is anyone still alive from Saul's family? If so, I want to show God's kindness to them." Ziba replied, "Yes, one of Jonathan's sons is still alive. He is crippled in both feet."). This is a reward of God towards Jonathan whose son is still alive.

The story of Dorcas in the scripture who was always showing kindness to the widows in the city of Joppa (Acts 9:36-42) is another place to look at where God rewards acts of goodness. The Bible states that when Dorcas became sick and died, Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ raised her up from the dead. Peter prayed to God and she was remembered and rewarded with life once again.

The widows who were weeping could not do anything because they did not have the power to reward her for all the clothes she had made for them until Peter came in and prayed to God for him to remember the kindness of Dorcas to the people of Joppa.

God rewards your act of kindness when it truly comes from your heart, do not be weary of it, even if humans do not appreciate you, keep doing it, God in heaven will reward you in ways you do not expect and in measure that is beyond your understanding.

God bless you.
