Riches Charge

1 Timothy 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 6:18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

The text above is a great lesson to learn about riches and its essence and impact it should have on us as believers.

Paul begins by reminding us of the uncertainty of earthly riches. He says, "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain" (1 Timothy 6:17a).

Wealth can provide comfort, security, and influence, but it can also disappear in an instant. Stock markets crash, economies fluctuate, and fortunes can vanish. Relying solely on material possessions for security is an empty pursuit.

Paul redirects our focus by revealing the true source of riches. He states, "but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment" (1 Timothy 6:17b). Our hope should not be anchored in temporal possessions but in the eternal God who is the giver of all good things.

 God is the ultimate source of true wealth, providing us with the necessities of life and granting us blessings to be enjoyed. Understanding this truth reshapes our perspective on wealth and its purpose in our lives.

Next, Paul addresses the proper use of riches. He instructs, "Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share" (1 Timothy 6:18). Material wealth should never be seen as an end in itself but as a means to bring glory to God and bless others.

As faithful stewards, we are called to employ our resources to make a positive impact on the world around us. Through acts of kindness, charitable giving, and sharing our blessings with those in need, we display the transformative power of God's love.

Lastly, Paul reveals the eternal rewards of generosity. He assures us, "In this way, they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life" (1 Timothy 6:19).

 When we prioritize using our riches for God's purposes, we store up treasures in heaven that are imperishable. Our generosity in this life will be rewarded in the life to come. True life, authentic and abundant, is found not in the accumulation of material wealth but in the selfless giving and sacrificial love we extend to others.

As we reflect on Paul's charge to the wealthy, let us remember that riches are a blessing meant to be stewarded for God's glory. May we not be consumed by the pursuit of wealth but put our hope in the One who provides us with everything.

Let us use our resources to make a lasting impact, generously sharing with those in need and investing in eternal treasures. As we do so, we will experience the true riches found in a life surrendered to Christ, a life that is truly life.

May God empower us to be faithful stewards of His blessings, today and always. Amen.
