Excellent Things
Proverbs 22:20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
Philippians 1:10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;
The book of Proverbs is renowned for its practical wisdom, guiding us in righteous living. In Proverbs 22:20, we read, "Have I not written to you excellent things of counsels and knowledge?" This verse emphasizes the value of knowledge and wise counsel in our pursuit of excellence.
As we immerse ourselves in the Word of God, we gain insights into godly living, righteous choices, and the principles that lead to success. It is through this knowledge that we can navigate life's challenges and make wise decisions.
To pursue excellence, we must seek godly counsel and embrace knowledge. Proverbs reminds us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Therefore, we should be humble enough to seek advice from those who have walked the path of faith, and earnestly study the Word of God to gain understanding and direction.
The pursuit of excellence involves more than mere knowledge. Let us now turn our attention to the apostle Paul's letter to the Philippians, where we find another vital aspect of this pursuit.
In Philippians 1:10, Paul writes, "so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ." Here, Paul speaks of discernment and approval, highlighting the importance of making wise choices and pursuing righteousness.
To pursue excellence, we must have discernment, the ability to distinguish between what is good and what is excellent. In a world filled with distractions and temptations, we need the guidance of the Holy Spirit to identify the paths that align with God's will and lead us toward His best for our lives.
Paul urges the Philippians to live sincerely and blamelessly, embodying a consistent and righteous lifestyle. As we pursue excellence, our actions should reflect our faith, showcasing the transformative power of God's grace within us. We must strive to align our thoughts, words, and deeds with the teachings of Christ, walking blamelessly before God and humanity.
The pursuit of excellence requires the treasure of knowledge and the discernment to make wise choices. It is a lifelong endeavor that requires intentionality and commitment.
May we be diligent in seeking knowledge and wise counsel, allowing the Word of God to guide our decisions and actions. Let us be open to the teaching of the Holy Spirit, who illuminates the truths of Scripture and empowers us to pursue excellence.
God bless you.
