Natural Man
1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
In the world we live in today, there are those who reject the things of God and find them foolishness. Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians, addresses this very issue and helps us understand the importance of the Holy Spirit in discerning God's wisdom.
The natural man refers to an individual who does not possess the Holy Spirit within them. This person relies solely on human intellect, knowledge, and worldly wisdom.
The natural man views spiritual matters as foolishness because they lack the spiritual discernment necessary to comprehend the things of God. In their limited perspective, they fail to grasp the deep mysteries of faith and often dismiss them as irrelevant or irrational.
The natural man is unable to accept the truths that originate from the Spirit of God. They may encounter the Word of God or witness the work of the Holy Spirit, but without spiritual discernment, they cannot fully grasp or accept these realities. To them, the things of God seem nonsensical and illogical.
Relying solely on human wisdom, the natural man tends to prioritize worldly knowledge and understanding over spiritual insights. They seek answers in human philosophy, science, technology and reasoning, failing to recognize the supreme wisdom found only in God.
The Holy Spirit plays a pivotal role in the life of a believer by granting them spiritual discernment. The Spirit reveals the deep things of God, enabling us to comprehend the truths of Scripture, experience divine wisdom, and understand the power of God's love.
As we surrender ourselves to the Holy Spirit, our perspective undergoes a transformation. The Spirit enables us to see the world through God's eyes, discern His will, and align our lives with His purpose. Spiritual discernment leads to a life that is pleasing to God, characterized by love, humility, and a hunger for righteousness.
We must actively seek the guidance and presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Through prayer, meditation on Scripture, and the nurturing of a deep relationship with God, we invite the Spirit to mold us into vessels capable of discerning His truth.
The Bible is the inspired Word of God, and by studying it diligently, we deepen our understanding of His character and His ways. The Scriptures serve as a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, leading us to spiritual discernment.
Also, Engaging in Christian fellowship and corporate worship allows us to learn from one another and collectively seek the Spirit's wisdom. By sharing our experiences and insights, we grow together in spiritual discernment, strengthening our faith and building up the body of Christ.
It is essential for one as a believer to grow from being a natural man controlled solely by human intellect, knowledge and worldly wisdom but blind and ignorant to the wisdom and knowledge of the living God to being a spirit man that is controlled by the wisdom of God, Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit. May we receive the grace in Jesus Christ name.
God bless you.
