God's mighty shaking

Haggai  2:7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.  2:8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

Today's text reflects the time when God's people had returned from exile in Babylon to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem. However, they faced numerous challenges, and their focus had shifted from God's house to their own comfort and prosperity. Haggai, the prophet, was sent by God to remind the people of their priorities and to encourage them to rebuild the temple.

Verse 7 declares that God will shake all nations. This shaking signifies divine intervention in the affairs of humanity, causing upheaval and disruption. But why would God shake everything? He does so to reveal His glory and establish His kingdom. It is a call for humanity to recognize His sovereignty and align their lives with His purposes.

While God's shaking is often manifested in physical and natural realms, it extends beyond that. The shaking also encompasses the spiritual realm, where He confronts our sinful nature, self-centeredness, and misplaced priorities. God's shaking exposes our true condition and compels us to reassess our lives and return to Him.

In verse 8, God declares, "The silver is mine, and the gold is mine." These words remind us that everything belongs to God. The material possessions we often chase after are merely temporary. The true riches lie in a relationship with God and participating in His glorious work. God's shaking serves as a reminder that our focus should be on the eternal, not the temporal.

When God shakes us, it is an invitation to repentance, surrender, and renewed commitment. We are called to rebuild His spiritual temple within us, aligning our lives with His will. It requires an examination of our hearts, confession of sin, and a willingness to let go of anything that hinders our relationship with God. Let us respond to God's shaking by seeking His face, pursuing righteousness, and making Him the center of our lives.

God's mighty shaking is not intended to destroy us but to restore and realign us with His purposes. As we yield to His shaking, God will fill His house, both corporately and individually, with His glory.

May we recognize the desire of all nations, Jesus Christ, and embrace Him as our Savior and Lord. Let us respond to His shaking with humble hearts and surrender, knowing that through this process, God will establish His kingdom and bring about His divine purposes in our lives and in this world.

God bless you.
