The importance of extra oil

Matthew  25:3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them

The  parable in this text is a great deal for our understanding of the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ,
Matthew  25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

There were ten virgins, they were all qualified to meet the bridegroom, they all passed the test of selection, all of them  have not defiled themselves with the things of the world, thy Understand the purpose of being pure till the bridegroom comes, so they all set out to meet their joy and everlasting happiness.

Matthew  25:2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.  25:3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
But then, there is a little difference between the ten virgins,  five were  recognised to be wise and five to be foolish, their being  wise was as a result of them  to have taken extra oil in their vessel, while the other took no extra oil, meanwhile all of them had oil in their lamps and kept burning.

The lamp represent our salvation in Christ, already filled with the oil of the Holy Spirit and keeps us burning for the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, but once saved is not forever saved, there must be a means for an extra oil of being refilled of the Holy Spirit. Acts  13:52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.

As a believer in Christ, we are expected to continually burn for God, this can only happen in the place of refilling through prayer, fasting and deep digestion of the words of God.

Jesus Christ being full of the Holy spirit didn't forsake the place of prayer, despite being God in man, but in this, teaches us on how to best live in him while waiting for for His return.

Matthew  25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

They all slept, even those with extra oil, their spiritual sensitivity went down, they were carried away by the lateness of the bridegroom, they had waited for long and thus tired, so they slept. A time of sleeping is a time of loosing guard, their lamp Continue to burn but their oil began to depreciate...

Many are believers who still carries the oil of the day of salvation, they keep burning but was never sensitive to the fact that their oil has been depreciating, they appear confidently spirit filled so no need to have extra oil in the vessel. They have no need to continually feed on the word, humble at the place of prayer and fasting and be on guard for the second coming, many are they who trusted in the gift of the spirit which is without repentance but were blind to check their spiritual oil level.

Matthew  25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.  25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

Unexpectedly, the time came, there was a cry, the time for the bridegroom, the call was made for all the virgins to meet the bridegroom... They all arose and trimmed their lamps for the welcoming, but their lamp has gone down, though there is still light in it but the oil is drained up. Just like many Christian who slept and slumbered who arose in the day of temptation but found out thier oil in the lamp is drained up.

The wise took their extra oil in the vessel and refilled their lamp, so they have a brighter light to meet the bridegroom, as much as their light shine brighter, it couldn't illuminate the lamp of the foolish five

Their extra oil gave them the courage, the ticket, the opportunity to meet the bridegroom, the foolish failed, went back to get a refill, but it was too late.

Your extra oil is your tireless prayer life, your consistent fasting, and your fervent consumption of the word.

Your extra oil will stand for you even when you sleep during temptation, when it seems your faith is going low, your extra  oil will be your support and strength

1 Corinthians  10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. Once saved is not forever saved, the devil never sleep nor slumber, you can't depend on the life at salvation, there must be consistent refill and carrying of extra oil.

The bridegroom tarries today, you may not know maybe you have slept off from the consciousness of the spirit, maybe you have been overwhelmed by His delay promises... But the constant refill of the Holy sprit will keep you fit for the coming of the bridegroom

Do you have an extra oil?, if you should sleep and slumber now, do You have an extra to refill with?

Check your life today, get more oil with you before it is too late.

God bless you.
