The danger of living a patched up life
2 Peter 2:20 And when a person has escaped from the wicked ways of the world by learning about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and then gets tangled up with sin and becomes its slave again, he is worse off than he was before. (LVB)
Living a patched up life is trying to live a double standard life, trying to merge two different things together in a bid to have a ballance.
The salvation God gave through His son Jesus Christ by dying on the cross does not give us a patched up life whereby we still have the consciousness of the old nature or still fulfill its desire while we still claim to be with God.
He gave us a new nature, a brand new life and not a patched up life with the desires of sin, lust of the flesh and the works of the devil
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. You can't be in Christ and still live in the old nature of flesh and carnality
And when a person has escaped from the wicked ways of the world by learning about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and then gets tangled up with sin and becomes its slave again, he is worse off than he was before (2 Peter 2:20)
Apostle Peter was speaking here of those who were once Christians, they had come out of sin and were saved because of their obedience to the truth. They had obeyed the Gospel, and thus, they have been washed of all sin. However, they fell from grace by returning to the life of sin from. Which they had been redeemed from
It is so sad today that many bear name with Christ but their life in Christ has been patched up with all works of the flesh which are evidence in Galatians 5:19
People see them as a godly believer but deep inside they are full of deceit and evil.
Many appear to be righteous in the face of man, but deep inside they are stinking rag, fulfilling the lust of the flesh, messing up the temple of God with the desires of the devil.
Many preaches the words of peace, they proclaim the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, they enforce the sound doctrine, yet in their closet they deny it's power and work against what they have preached.
Such are those who has patched up their life of righteousness and holiness with the deceit of the devil.
The dangers of a patched up life.
1. A miserable life
2 Peter 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
Their life will become worse and miserable, this is because the sanctified life of godliness no longer had its appeal as it did when they were first converted to Jesus. Because of their hardness of the heart by sin, they were desensitised to the appeal of the Gospel of Christ.
It is better for them, you, not to have known Christ than to have known Him and turn back to the devil you have once forsaken because the devil will not stop to destroy your life until he drags you to hell.
2. A reproach to the name of God and gospel
Luke 17:1 Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! 17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
Living a patched up life will make you become a reproach to the name of God and the Gospel you claim to represent, people see a double life style in you, those who suppose to grow in Christ through you are often disappointed by your chameleon way of life,
many has fell into temptation through you. Know for sure that you will have your place in hell if you do repent
3. They have no place in God.
2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
God does not drag souls with the devil, as much as you are not willing to give your all to Him, in righteousness and holiness, then He will depart form you to fulfill the desires of the slave master you have chosen.
Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will claim to be with Christ and worked for Him in this world, but at the end the Lord will reject them because they patched up thier life in this world.
Check your life today and see where you have missed it in God, where you have been patching your life trying to fulfil the desires of the flesh and at the same time trying to please God.
Remember you can never deceive God, Revelation 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Repent today, tomorrow may be too late, stop patching up your life with sin, let Him give you a new life of rightness and holiness which guarantee peace in this world and give you a place in His kingdom.
Stop patching up your life.
God bless you.
