Decency in all things
1 Corinthians 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
Apostle Paul was speaking to the the Corinthians for their extreme pride in having spiritual gifts and their childish behavior in the congregation.
The Corinthians were so self-absorbed that they behaved in some sort of uncontrolled manner that was different than other churches. Although the Bible does not tell us exactly what they did, only that it was a misuse of their spiritual gifts and disgraceful to God.
Paul gave the Corinthians this simple rule to follow to guide their actions in matters related to their worship of God. This included such things as the customs they would follow and how they would act so that they could properly glorify God and be an example for non-Christians in order to convert unbelievers.
So many believers act in a disorderly character which is even alien to the unbelievers, and sadly such behaviours has crept into the house of worship of God.
From the previous verse in 1 Corinthians 14 and in previous chapters, Paul had given the Corinthians various rules to guide how they should be acting, such as what they chose to do even if it is perfectly legal to do so.
Some things are lawful, but they are not expedient, some things are legal, but they have no glorification to God, such things must be avoided in other to have an orderly assembly of God.
Romans 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
Our life style must be an example to both the believers and none believers, it shouldn't be of a rioting, drunkenness, not engaging in strife, envying or jealousy.
Even our dressing, eating, communication and worship before God must be done in an orderly manner, else we will continually repel the presence of God and the dignity of our Spirituality will fade away.
This means that we should do things in the proper sequence and at the right time, rather than in a haphazard and impulsive manner.
Let all things be done decently and in order as in glorifying God and not self. By this only, can God be pleased with our life and service.
God bless you.
