A Contrite Heart
Psalms 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
A contrite heart or spirit is when a person’s inner man or will has been broken so they no longer run after the things they want, but surrender to the things that God wants. A broken heart or will says I will no longer do this my way or on my terms but I will surrender to your ways.
Those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit are willing to do anything and everything that God asks of them. They have no regret forsaking all for God, when they make the decision of doing God's will, there is no turning back.
Father Abraham was a man with a contrite heart, his total belief and faith in God distinguish him from all who have served God.
He was instructed to leave his father's house, His business, relations, inheritance and country to a place he would be shown. He never doubted the voice of God, he acted swiftly in obedience
On the other phase when God asked him to sacrifice his son whom he got at his old age, even though it was a very difficult decision to make as human, but his heart was very determined, he never ague with God. Only a contrite heart can do such.
The Apostles of Christ were not left behind, they forsake all they have, family and friends, business and associates to follow Christ in ministry, they have no shelter of their own neither do they work to to feed, but they trusted God in whom they serve, even unto death.
When God's desires and will is above our own desires and wants in life, then we experience a contrite heart
When we have received a forgiveness of sins, a broken heart serves as a divine shield against temptation.
A contrite heart does not question God on instructions given, but in faith, total trust and obedience to God's voice
The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, broken down with sorrow for sin and humbly and thoroughly penitent, such sacrifice is what God will not despise. Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
The question is, can you risk all for God? Would you allow His will to overrule your own desires? There is no better way to please God than to have a contrite heart.
God bless you.
