Rewards of Charity
Proverbs 11:24-25 There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.
Charity is the act of giving help to those in need of it. It is a humanitarian act. It involves giving money, goods or time and effort to those who need it. It is done without expecting something in return. Giving money or food to poor people is an example of charity.
It is not a business investment that is done in expectation of profit or gain, it is not done to receive the praise of men, it is done from the depth of one's heart without expecting anything in return.
It is one of the fruit of the spirit that Every believer must possess, it is the highest form of love, signifying the reciprocal of love between God and man that is made manifest in unselfish love towards one’s fellow men.
It is not only in giving money, it involves giving of goods and services like prayer intercession, volunteering, counselling etc It is an act that registers a record before God, sometimes He can use our act of charity to save us from trouble if we did it with good intentions and godly motives.
Having the poor, the needy, orphans, widows around will never be an ending situation till Christ comes, so God raised the rich so as to help the poor in times of need.
The rewards of Charity abounds both in this world and the kingdom of God to come
1. It is God's will that man give to help others.
Hebrews 13:16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
It pleases God that man give to help others in need, by helping, you lift their soul burden and gives them hope they would have lost. It is an act of kindness and love which is one of the fruit of the spirit in the nature of God.
2. When we give, we receive more in abundance
Luke 6:48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
When we give with the whole of our heart with good intention, then God will refill us with much more blessings to live our life. Givers don't lack, for they sow seeds of blessing and they will definitely reap in abundance.
3. It saves in time of trouble.
Consider the life of Dorcas
Acts 9:36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.
This woman was a disciple, she was blessed by God with many resources, the scripture recorded that she was full of good works and alms giving, she loves the poor, so also believes whatever she has is not only for her but for everyone around her.
When she died, her money, resources and wealth she had could not save her at the pint of death, but Because of her charity work, the Elders made a request on her behalf, the tears of the widows she had helped went up before the throne of God and brought back her spirit. She was raised from the dead because of her works of charity.
4. It is a loan to God
Proverbs 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
When you help the poor, and those in need, you are actually loaning to God, and He will definitely repay back with interest in multiple folds
There are much more rewards for charity, it is not a waste of time and resources, if you do it with the whole of your heart, God in heaven will repay you back in several ways you can never imagine.
Do not horde the resources God has given you, is it wisdom , money, material wealth, and even your time?, Someone out there needs it, be the answer to their prayers today.
