Proverbs  3:11 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:  3:12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. Discipline is the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behaviour, using punishment to correct disobedience. This can be done by oneself or from someone to another.  As humans, we are bound to make mistakes, as much as there is a law guiding the affairs of our life, there will always be a time we would sin against the set law and definitely we are bound to be disciplined.  This is in no way of acting wickedly to the offender, but to bring knowledge, correction to the offender in order to avoid future occurrence.   In some  passages of Scripture, the word is used in reference to a father training his children, or training in righteousness, or in this context God training his children. Matthew  8:26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. Jeremiah  23:1 Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD. A shepherd is someone who watches over, looks after, or guides somebody.
