Contentment
1 Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
Biblical contentment is a conviction that Christ’s power, purpose and provision is sufficient for every circumstances. We are to learn how to walk through all kinds of adversity believing in and experiencing Christ’s sufficiency. We have to choose to rest on God’s good promises despite what may be going on in our lives.
When one focuses his life on behaving after the direction of the word of God, he becomes content with life in that his purpose of life is not to consume the things of this world upon his own lusts.
Instead of focusing on gaining the riches of this world, a godly man will focus on spiritual things that will result in eternal life.
A believer must come to the realization that our passing through this world is too brief to focus on the things of this world, God ordained that the things of this world are to sustain us on our brief stay here in preparation for that which is to come.
Since we were born with nothing, when we die, we will have nothing. As much as we understand the purpose of the things of this world, then we will not be obsessed with the desire to have more than we need.
Apostle Paul was commending the church at Phillipi for their massive contribution financially and materially to his ministry. so he emphasise on the grace to be content he receive from God through Christ. Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
It is only in Christ that one can understands the purpose of all things. When in poverty, it is Christ who gives strength to overcome discouragement and despair, when in riches, it is Christ who gives strength to overcome the control of money. In any circumstances of life. Therefore, the believer has power to endure because Christ is He who works in him.
Many of us are trying to fill a void of some kind in our lives, and unfortunately we try to fill that void with things that can’t satisfy.
We look to fill the void with possessions or money, but we only end up wanting more. We try to fill it with relationships or sex, but we end up feeling even more empty and depressed than when we started.
All of these things we try to fill our lives with aren’t necessarily bad things, but when they become the end goals, and the reason for our being, we end up being discontent because those things were never meant to fulfill us.
No matter how well you pursue money, you can never have enough...
Wealth is “like seawater: the more you drink, the thirstier you become.”
You can only have peace of mind when you put your trust in God, have faith in Him for His daily provisions.
Be contented with whatever you are given each day...
Do not try to have wealth, money by all means, else you fall into temptation.
The Bible calls us to allow our convictions, not our circumstances, to govern our sense of contentment.
Be contested with what you need and not what you want, else you sin.
God bless you.
