Don't despise little beginning

Zechariah  4:10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

A little understanding of history reveals that the  armies of Nebuchadnezzar captured jerusalem   In 586 b.c. Most of Jerusalem’s inhabitants were deported to Babylon for a period of about 70 years, as prophesied by Jeremiah.

When the Babylonian Empire fell to the Persian Empire (539 b.c.), Cyrus the Great decreed that the Jews could return to Jerusalem to rebuild their temple. A small minority of about 50,000 Jews… returned under the leadership of Zerubbabel the governor and Joshua the high priest.

External oppression and internal depression halted the rebuilding of the temple for about 16 more years of spiritual apathy till the rule of the Persian King Darius.  In the second year of Darius’s reign, God raised up Haggai the prophet to encourage the Jews in rebuilding.

Zechariah also began his prophetic ministry, encouraging the people to spiritual renewal and motivating them to rebuild the temple by revealing to them God’s plans for Israel’s future. Thus he said by the inspiration of the spirit of God that the people should not depose the humble begining of the temple restoration which was orchestrated by Zerubbabel, for he shall complete it by the power of God.

External and internal forces came against the temple rebuilt, but the people were not discouraged, instead they continued in the power of God.

Great things always start small, those who pulled down a  mighty mountain started with picking small stones. Whatever God has committed into your hands, do not be afraid to start, do not be discouraged by  both internal and external forces, put your trust and hope in God, the journey may be far and rough, but surely you will get to the destination.

Nehimaiah was never discouraged by the mockery of Sanballat  and Tobaiah who tried to stop the rebuilding of the wall, but their evil plot and words of discouragement becomes their pitfall.  Nehimaiah didn't relent, having confidence in God, he latter succeeded.

You will also succeed in anything God has committed into your hands as long as you put your trust in Him, do not be afraid, He is always with you and He will bring you to the finish line happily.

Do not despise your humble begining, because your hand that started the good things, will surly complete it.

God bless you.
