The strong tower
Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
Every animal knows how to run to a refuge when being preyed upon, pursued or threatened. Some dive into a hole in the ground, some climb a tree, some run into a thick, some hide in tall grass, some rely on colouration to make them blend in and become invisible. Humans runs into towers in ancient times for refuge
Towers were built to protect crops, roads, and cities. They were used both domestically to watch over a landowner’s fields and militarily in the defense of a city. Watchmen stood in towers, armed and ready to sound the alarm if enemies threatened their territory.
There are many times in life when we feel like we are being preyed upon by Satan, the world and even our own weaknesses. We feel the need to flee. As one bumper sticker put it, “When the going gets tough the tough head for the hills.” That means to run for refuge, to flee the trouble and to seek safety.
The Name of the Lord is the strong tower where we can find refuge, it is where the strength lies. His Name has all power to combat anything the enemy tries to raise against us. The name of the lord is a name above every name.
It is a refuge for us to run into and be safe from all the attacks that come against us. The Name of the Lord is our divine protection and we need Him at all times.
If we were caught out in a storm and only have a flimsy umbrella, the wind and force of the storm would rip it right out of our hands, but if we see a tower in the distance, we could run into it and be safe from the wind and rain or whatever might come crashing down on us.
The Name of the Lord is strong against storms that would try to uproot us. The Name of the Lord is secure. We are protected from harm and harassment of the enemy.
Nevertheless, this strong tower is only for those who are righteous in the Lord, the name of the lord is only a refuge to those who are righteous inside out.
No matter how you call on the name of the Lord, if you still live in sin, it will become impotent to you. "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?" (Romans 6:1)
The name of the Lord is strong enough to save you from all troubles of life if you remain righteous in the Lord.
God bless you.
