Building strength for Adversity

Proverbs 24:10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

Adversity refers to trouble, misfortune or difficulties. Though every believer would prefer to always live in prosperity, peace and joy. Adversity or difficult times do feature in the life of the Christian.

When we face adversity, generally, we first pray for God to remove it. But the Lord usually doesn’t remove the adversity. And so we have to go through it. Peter tells us, “the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world,” [1 Pet 5:9]. Thus, we need strength in adversity to get through these trials.

It is expected of every believers in Christ to expect adversity, because we are in the world but not of the world. The system of the world will always want to work against the standard of God in us, but Christ promised He has overcome the world.

We are to be rooted in Christ, build up our strength so we can face any challenge the devil or the world may trow at us. Before the launching of His ministry, Christ first went into the wilderness for prayer and power.

As a believer, you build up your strength for the time of adversity through the following :

God’s Strength
we can do nothing with our own human strength. If we are to fight and win against adversity, then we must trust God and not our own human strength.
Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

God’s grace
It is the grace of God that gives us the momentum to fight on, even when our strength, power, and human knowledge is limited, it is His grace that lifts our spirit and makes us prevail. When Paul asked the Lord to remove the thorns in his flesh, God said, “my grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness,” [2 Cor 12:9].

God’s Wisdom
Trying to succeed in a spiritual battle without applying God's method will result to total failure. If Saul had trusted his soldiers to fight Goliahat, He would have become a slave instantly, but God's wisdom was applied through David. Ecc 9:16 wisdom is better than strength. With weapons of war you only have the show of strength and the weapons with which to fight. With wisdom, you may never have to fight.

God's word:
His word is the sword of the spirit by which we fight the devil. One must be rooted in it, consume it and live by it. The word of God is unchallengeable for the devil.

Trust in the Lord with all your strength and you will prevail I ever Any adversity that may come your way.

God bless you.
