Godly Zeal
Numbers 25:10 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 25:11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
Being zealous is to have great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective, godly Zeal is to channel one's energy and enthusiasm towards the things of God and His will.
Israel had committed sin against the commands of God, He had warned them never to have a thing to do with the moabites, not only did they commune with them but also committed whoredom with them.
To cap it all, they joined in worshipping their gods by bowing down to it. This kindled the anger of God and make Him to send plague over to the camp of the Israelite.
Just after the Lord pronounced judgment on everyone who partook in the detestable sin, an Israelite brought a moabite woman into his tent for the purpose of fornication, but Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest was filled with anger, took a javelin and thrust both of them. This act quench the anger of God against the whole Israelite.
When the whole nation was filled with sin and immoralities, someone stood up with godly Zeal and did what was right in the presence of God.
It doesn't take a crowd to make a positive change, it begins with a person who has a positive mindset. Such was Phinehas, the son of Eleazar.
When evil persist around you, what is your reaction towards it?, do you compromise with the sinners or you act with a godly Zeal to stand for God's righteousness?
God is still looking for Phinehas of today, who will stand in the gap for Him, who will not be influenced by the immoralities of the society and lust of the world, but filled with the Holy ghost and moving with the Zeal of God to enforce His righteousness and holiness.
God rewarded Phinihas for his Zeal, He establish a covenant of peace and priesthood for him and his generation to come.
It doesn't cost a dime to stand on the Lord's side in this perverse generation. Are you filled with goldy Zeal or you have join the multitude to do evil?, are you speaking up against evil or you are silent in fear of what the world will do to you?
God is counting on you in this generation. Don't disappoint Him.
