The word of the Lord

2 Kings  7:1 Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

There may comes a time when life seems to be ending, a time when help seems far away, a time when there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel, words of hope has been silenced and we think of ending it all. But in time like this, there is still the word of someone that can turn things around for good. Such is the word that came though Elisha.

I. The Desperate Situation:
In 2 Kings 7:1-7, we find ourselves amidst a desperate situation in the city of Samaria. The people were besieged by their enemies, facing a severe famine and great suffering. Within the city walls, hunger gnawed at their bellies, and death loomed over them. The situation seemed hopeless, and all human efforts appeared futile. Yet, in the midst of despair, God sent a prophet with a divine message.

II. The Promise of the Word:
The prophet proclaimed, "Hear the word of the Lord!" In that moment, the people's attention was directed toward the voice of God. Amidst their anguish, God's promise broke through, offering a glimmer of hope. The Lord declared, "Tomorrow about this time, a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria." It was a promise of abundance, provision, and deliverance.

III. The Response of Faith:
Now, imagine the response of those who heard the prophet's words. They had every reason to doubt, to dismiss the message as an illusion in the face of their dire circumstances. But instead, four lepers at the city gate demonstrated extraordinary faith. They recognized the significance of the Word of the Lord and decided to act upon it. With a step of faith, they set out toward the enemy camp, not knowing what awaited them.

IV. The Miraculous Provision:
As the lepers walked toward the enemy's camp, God magnificently intervened. He caused the enemy army to hear the sound of chariots, horses, and a great army approaching. In their panic, the enemy fled, leaving behind their tents, horses, and provisions. The lepers, amazed by the divine intervention, found themselves in the midst of an abundance they never could have imagined. The promise of God's Word had been fulfilled, and the city of Samaria was delivered from their affliction.

V. The Lesson for Us:
This account holds profound lessons for us today. It reminds us that in our darkest moments, when all seems lost, the Word of the Lord remains a beacon of hope. The promises contained within it are not empty words; they are God-breathed and infuse our lives with divine power. Just as the lepers responded with faith, we too must trust and act upon the Word of the Lord. It is not enough to listen; we must step out in obedience, believing that God is faithful to fulfill His promises.

Conclusion:
The Word of the Lord stands as a testament to His love, compassion, and unwavering faithfulness. It is not bound by time or circumstance. When we find ourselves in desperate situations, let us fix our gaze upon the promises of God's Word. Let us respond with unwavering faith, knowing that our heavenly Father is faithful to provide and deliver us. May we be like the lepers, willing to step out in obedience, and experience the miraculous provision that awaits us

God bless you.
