Denying unholiness
Titus 1:11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. 1:12 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. 1:13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
Living a Godly life is a necessity for any believer in Christ and even it is God's plan for everyone. Apostle Paul in his message begins by describing the individuals who were causing trouble within the church. He calls them "empty talkers" and "deceivers."
Their mouths were filled with empty words and false teachings, which served no purpose other than to deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting. Paul warns that such individuals are motivated by their own selfish desires, leading them further away from the truth of God's Word.
Today, we still encounter individuals who promote unholiness through their words and actions. They lead others astray with false teachings, tempting them to deviate from the path of righteousness. We must be vigilant and discerning, aware of the consequences of embracing unholiness. It not only harms our relationship with God but also negatively impacts our witness to the world.
In verse 12, Paul instructs Titus to rebuke these false teachers sharply so that they may be sound in the faith. This reminds us of the importance of confronting unholiness in our midst.
As followers of Christ, we are called to deny ungodliness and worldly passions. We cannot remain silent when we witness falsehood and unholiness corrupting the body of believers.
Denying unholiness is not a passive act; it requires active engagement. We are called to stand firm on the truth of God's Word and confront the lies that attempt to infiltrate our hearts and the church. By doing so, we protect ourselves and others from the destructive power of sin.
Paul continues in verse 13, highlighting the necessity of living a godly life. He encourages Titus to act as a role model by embodying the teachings of Jesus Christ. Our lives should be characterized by righteousness, love, and integrity. When we deny unholiness, we create space for God's transformative work within us.
Living a godly life not only influences our personal relationship with God but also impacts those around us. Our commitment to holiness serves as a beacon of light in a dark world. By modeling godly behavior, we attract others to the love and truth found in Jesus Christ.
As we continue the journey of our faith, let us reflect on the words of Paul to Titus. Let us be vigilant in denying unholiness and embracing a godly life. May we reject empty talk and deceitful practices, and instead, stand firm on the truth of God's Word. By doing so, we demonstrate our love for God and our commitment to living a life worthy of our calling.
Let us pray that God gives us the strength to deny unholiness, remain steadfast in the face of temptation, and live lives that honor and glorify Him. May our actions and words align with His truth, drawing others closer to the hope and salvation found in Jesus Christ. Amen.
God bless you.
