The second coming of Christ is closer

Matthew 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

From the passage, we see the disciples approaching Jesus privately, seeking answers to two vital questions. They asked Him, "Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?"

Their inquiry reflects the human longing for understanding and assurance regarding the future. Like the disciples, we too are curious about when Christ will return, and what signs we should look for.

In response to the disciples' questions, Jesus warned them about certain signs that would precede His second coming. He cautioned them against being led astray by false messiahs, declaring, "See that no one leads you astray." Jesus knew that in the last days, many would come claiming to be the Messiah, seeking to deceive and mislead people.

He also foretold of wars, rumors of wars, and various calamities, saying, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places." These events would mark the beginning of sorrows, the birth pangs leading up to the climax of human history.

As we look around the world today, we see the signs that Jesus spoke about unfolding before our eyes. We witness nations in turmoil, conflicts and wars erupting, natural disasters striking with increasing frequency and intensity, and an upsurge in false teachings and false messiahs. The fulfillment of these prophecies in our time is a solemn reminder that the second coming of Christ is imminent.

The knowledge that the second coming of Christ is closer than we think should not fill us with fear or anxiety. Instead, it should inspire us to live with hope and purpose. We are called to be vigilant, to stay faithful to our calling, and to share the good news of Jesus with others.

Our lives should be characterized by love, compassion, and a fervent desire to serve God and our fellow human beings. Let us remember that Christ's return is not meant to terrify us, but rather to bring about the ultimate fulfillment of God's redemptive plan.

The signs Jesus spoke about are unfolding before us, serving as a profound reminder of the urgency of the times in which we live. Let us not be complacent or distracted, but rather let us be vigilant and prepared for His return.

May we find comfort in the hope of His coming and live our lives in a manner worthy of His calling. Let us be steadfast in our faith, sharing the love and truth of Christ with all those around us, as we eagerly await the glorious day when He will return in power and majesty. Amen.

God bless you.
