Be Separated
2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
This passage reminds us of the importance of being separated as believers, setting ourselves apart from the influences of the world. In a culture that often encourages compromise and conformity, God calls us to a higher standard of living.
Verse 14 of our passage highlights the reason behind this call to separation: "For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" As followers of Christ, we are called to live lives of righteousness, guided by God's Word and His principles. Our partnership with God should not be compromised by aligning ourselves with those who oppose His truth and promote lawlessness.
When we separate ourselves from the ways of the world, we experience a deeper intimacy with our Heavenly Father. He promises to receive us, to embrace us as His own. As we draw near to God, He draws near to us (James 4:8). Our separation from the world allows us to experience a loving and accepting relationship with the One who created us.
God, in His infinite love, offers us the incredible privilege of becoming His sons and daughters. By separating ourselves from the world's values, we become heirs of God's promises and participants in His eternal family. What a marvelous gift it is to be adopted into the family of the Most High God!
Living a life of separation requires deliberate choices and constant vigilance. Here are some practical steps we can take:
a) Guard our Associations: We should choose our friends and companions wisely, surrounding ourselves with believers who encourage and edify our faith. While we should show love and compassion to unbelievers, we must avoid entering into close partnerships that compromise our commitment to Christ.
b) Pursue Holiness: Separation involves a commitment to holiness. We should diligently study God's Word, allowing it to shape our thoughts, actions, and character. By immersing ourselves in His truth, we can discern what is pleasing to God and live lives that bring Him glory.
c) Live Counter-Culturally: As followers of Christ, we are called to be light in the darkness, salt in a decaying world. Our lives should reflect the values of God's kingdom, standing firm in our convictions even when they clash with societal norms. By doing so, we can influence others positively and draw them closer to the truth.
Finally, God's call to separation is not about judgment or exclusion. It is about protecting our faith, maintaining our devotion to God, and being.
