Fret Not
Psalms 37:1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 37:2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
We are In a world filled with uncertainty, challenges, and constant distractions, we often find ourselves worrying and being consumed by anxiety. However, the psalmist invites us to embrace a different perspective an attitude of trust and confidence in the Divine plan of God.
Fretting is an expression of worry, anxiety, or fear. It is the state of being consumed by negative thoughts, allowing them to dominate our hearts and minds. When we fret, we lose our peace, and our focus shifts from the goodness of God to the challenges we face.
Fretting not only robs us of our joy, but it also hinders our spiritual growth. It creates a barrier between us and God, preventing us from fully experiencing His presence and provision in our lives. Moreover, it leads to harmful behavior such as envy, anger, and even the temptation to compromise our values in pursuit of worldly success.
While the psalmist warns against fretting, he provides an antidote a call to trust in the Lord. In verse 3, we read, "Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness." This verse encourages us to redirect our focus and place our trust in God's sovereignty.
Trusting in God means recognizing His perfect wisdom and understanding that He is in control of every situation. It involves acknowledging that He has a plan for our lives, even when we cannot see it or understand it fully. By placing our trust in Him, we surrender our worries and anxieties, knowing that He is faithful to guide us through every trial.
In verses 4-6, the psalmist shares a profound truth: "Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart." This verse is not a promise of wish fulfillment, but a call to seek our ultimate joy and satisfaction in God Himself. When we delight in the Lord, our desires align with His will, and He blesses us according to His perfect plan.
Delighting in the Lord involves cultivating a close relationship with Him through prayer, worship, and the study of His Word. As we draw near to God, our hearts are transformed, and our desires become aligned with His purposes. In this state of alignment, we find true contentment and fulfillment, regardless of our circumstances.
Patience is another key virtue that the psalmist emphasizes. In verse 7, he writes, "Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him." Our fast-paced world often tempts us to rush ahead, seeking instant gratification and immediate results. However, God's timing is perfect, and His ways are higher than ours.
Waiting patiently requires us to surrender our desire for control and to trust that God knows what is best for us. It is an invitation to rest in His faithfulness, knowing that He will fulfill His promises in due time. As we wait, we can find peace in the assurance that God is at work behind the scenes, orchestrating everything for our ultimate good.
Finally, as we continue our daily life, let us embrace a life free from fretting. Instead, let us choose trust, knowing that our Heavenly Father holds our lives in His hands. Let us delight in Him, finding our ultimate joy and satisfaction in His presence. And let us learn to patiently wait upon the Lord, resting in the knowledge that His timing is perfect.
God bless you.
