The fear of Nothing
Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Jesus is preparing His disciples for the challenges they will face as they carry out their mission of proclaiming the Gospel. He warns them of potential persecution and urges them not to fear those who can harm the body but cannot touch the soul.
In our lives, we often find ourselves plagued by the fear of man. We fear rejection, criticism, or even physical harm. This fear can cripple us, hindering our witness and preventing us from fully living out our calling as followers of Christ. Yet, Jesus reminds us that this fear is unfounded in light of eternity. He tells us not to fear those who can only harm the body, for they have no power over the soul.
The alternative to the fear of man is the fear of God. But what does it mean to fear God? It is not a fear born out of terror or punishment, but a reverence and awe that stems from acknowledging God's holiness, power, and authority. It is recognizing that God is the Creator of all things, the sustainer of life, and the one who ultimately judges the righteous and the wicked.
When we truly grasp the fear of God, the fear of nothingness emerges. This fear of nothingness is not an absence of fear but a shift in focus. It is a recognition that the only fear worth having is the fear of God. When we fear God above all else, all other fears lose their power over us. The fear of failure, rejection, or even death pales in comparison to the fear of displeasing the One who holds our lives in His hands.
Embracing the fear of nothing requires a radical transformation of our perspective. It compels us to place our trust fully in God and to seek His kingdom above all else. It emboldens us to face opposition with unwavering faith, knowing that God is with us and will never forsake us.
When we live with the fear of nothing, we are liberated from the chains that hold us back. We are free to love without reservation, to forgive without hesitation, and to serve without seeking our own gain. The fear of nothing propels us to step out in faith, to share the Gospel boldly, and to live a life of obedience to God's Word.
Conclusion: let us remember that the fear of nothing is not a call to recklessness or apathy. It is an invitation to live in the fullness of God's grace, trusting Him in every circumstance, and prioritizing our devotion to Him above all else.
May we find the courage to let go of the fear of man and embrace the fear of God, experiencing the freedom and joy that come from living a life fully surrendered to our Heavenly Father. Let us go forth from this place, fearless and unshakable in our faith, knowing that the fear of nothing is the beginning of true wisdom.
God bless you.
