Why many believers lack evidence of wealth
Proverbs 19:15 Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, And an idle person will suffer hunger.
In recent times, prosperity is often associated with faith, where the evidence of wealth is seen as a reflection of God's favor. Many believers wonder, "Why don't I see wealth manifest in my life despite my faith?" the scripture today gives reasons behind this reality,
Proverbs 19:15 says, “Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry.” This passage highlights the importance of diligence in the life of a believer. Many believers are diligent in their spiritual life, in prayer, in attending church, but when it comes to the practical aspects of life such as work, business, and personal development, they fall short. The Bible clearly links laziness and a lack of industry to poverty.
God desires us to be both spiritually and practically diligent. In Genesis, God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden not just to enjoy it but to “work it and take care of it” (Genesis 2:15). Work is ordained by God. If we are not actively cultivating what He has placed in our hands, we cannot expect to see abundance.
Many believers assume that faith alone will bring wealth without corresponding action. James 2:17 reminds us that “faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Faith is powerful, but it must be paired with practical steps.
Some believers pray fervently for financial breakthrough but fail to manage their time, resources, and opportunities well. Proverbs 19:15 warns us that laziness leads to a metaphorical "deep sleep," a state of inactivity where opportunities are missed, and potential is wasted.
Wealth is often the result of sustained effort, wise decision-making, and discipline over time. Just as a farmer plants and tends to his crops diligently before reaping a harvest, we must apply effort consistently to see the fruit of prosperity.
Additionally sometimes, believers lack evidence of wealth because they are held back by fear or excuses. Proverbs 22:13 says, “The sluggard says, ‘There’s a lion outside! I’ll be killed in the public square!’” Fear of failure, fear of rejection, or fear of the unknown can paralyze us from taking necessary steps toward prosperity.
Many avoid starting a business, pursuing a new career, or taking risks because they convince themselves it's too dangerous or impossible. This fear becomes a form of laziness, where inactivity replaces hard work and innovation.
God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). To overcome this, we must trust God and step out in faith, knowing that He will direct our paths as we diligently work toward our goals.
Another reason many believers lack wealth is due to misplaced priorities. Matthew 6:33 tells us to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”. Many believers chase after wealth itself rather than focusing on their God-given purpose. Wealth is not the goal; it is a byproduct of walking in alignment with God’s purpose and principles.
When we prioritize God’s will and use our gifts to serve others, wealth will follow naturally. The parable of the talents in Matthew 25 teaches us that those who are faithful with the little they are given will be entrusted with more. Wealth comes from stewarding the resources, time, and talents God has given us.
Finally, some believers lack evidence of wealth because they fail to appreciate and steward what they already have. Proverbs 21:20 says, “The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.” It’s not just about how much we earn but how well we manage what we have. God cannot bless poor stewardship. If we are wasteful with what He has entrusted to us, whether it's time, finances, or opportunities, we limit our capacity to receive more.
Contentment and gratitude are crucial in attracting and sustaining wealth. When we are content with what we have and manage it wisely, we position ourselves for greater blessings.
In conclusion, Many believers lack evidence of wealth not because God is unwilling to bless them but because they have not embraced the principles of diligence, faith-filled action, and stewardship. God is ready to bless the works of your hands, but He requires you to put in the effort, to overcome fear, and to wisely manage what you have.
let us therefore commit to being diligent in all areas of our lives, to overcome the spirit of laziness, and to trust God for wisdom in managing the resources He has given us. Let us not just pray for wealth but act in alignment with God's principles, knowing that He will bless the work of our hands.
God bless you.
