Timely blessing for those that obey the Lord
Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
The words from our scripture passage today is spoken to the children of Israel as they stand at the foot of Mount Sinai, just before God gives them the law. It is a covenant moment, where God offers an invitation to His people, an invitation to experience a relationship that carries both responsibility and reward.
The first truth we see is the condition of obedience: "If you obey me fully..." God’s blessings are available, but they often come with conditions that require us to align our lives with His will. To serve the Lord means to live in a way that reflects His holiness, to keep His Word in our hearts, and to act according to His commandments.
In today’s world, we often expect blessings to come immediately, without putting in the time or effort required to meet God’s expectations. However, the scripture teaches us that obedience is the gateway to blessing.
The timely blessing from the Lord is not for the passive believer but for the active servant—those who strive to live in obedience to His Word. When we obey, we are positioned for God to bless us at the right time.
Next, the Lord says, "Then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession." God’s promise here is not just of material blessings but of relationship. The greatest blessing we can receive from God is not merely the things of this world, but the assurance that we belong to Him, that we are His treasured possession. The relationship we cultivate with God through service and obedience grants us access to a deeper level of His presence, favor, and provision.
What does it mean to be God’s treasured possession? It means to be valued, cared for, and protected by Him. When we serve the Lord faithfully, we are drawn into His covenant of love. And in this covenant, we find the peace, joy, and fulfillment that no earthly possession can provide.
Furthermore, one of the most challenging aspects of serving the Lord is trusting His timing. Many times, we expect immediate results, but God’s timing is often different from our own. The timely blessing from the Lord comes when He knows we are ready to receive it.
God’s promise to Israel was tied to their journey of faith. After delivering them from Egypt, God did not immediately take them to the Promised Land. Instead, He led them through a process, a wilderness experience where they learned to depend on Him. In the same way, our obedience may lead us through seasons of waiting or hardship, but these times prepare us for the blessings God has in store.
Scripture tells us in Galatians 6:9, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." God’s blessings come at the proper time. The key is perseverance in service and trust in God’s plan. Just as a farmer waits for the crop to mature before harvest, so too must we trust that God’s blessing will come in due season.
Finally, God reminds Israel, "Although the whole earth is mine..." This statement points to the vastness of God’s resources. God is not limited by anything in this world. He owns it all, and He is fully capable of providing for His people. When we serve the Lord, we are serving the Creator of all things, and He delights in blessing those who honor Him.
God’s ability to bless us is limitless. Whether the blessing is financial, spiritual, emotional, or physical, we can trust that God’s provision will meet every need we have. When we serve Him with a whole heart, He opens the windows of heaven and pours out blessings beyond our expectations.
In conclusion, the blessings of the Lord may not always come in the form we anticipate or at the time we desire, but they come according to His perfect plan. Let us commit today to serve the Lord with gladness, trusting that our obedience will be rewarded.
God bless you.
