Obeying God's instructions

Deuteronomy  11:27 A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day:

As humans, our life is guided by some sets instruction, whether at home, school, or work. Instructions provide direction, it ensure order, and help us avoid unnecessary mistakes. In a similar way, God has given us His instructions through His Word. These commands are not meant to be a burden to us, but to bless us.

The scripture today gives us understanding of the significance of obeying God’s instructions and how it unlocks blessings in our lives.

1. Obedience is the Key to God's Blessings

Deuteronomy 11:27 says, obedience to God's commands brings blessings. This means when we align ourselves with His will, we position ourselves to receive His favor and provision. God’s instructions are like a road map, leading us to the fullness of life He desires for us.

However, we must understand that these blessings are not always material. They come in various forms, like peace in the midst of storms, joy even in difficult circumstances, spiritual growth, and a closer relationship with God. Psalm 1:1-3 tells us that the one who delights in the law of the Lord is "like a tree planted by streams of water," yielding fruit in due season. This means that obedience brings fruitfulness, stability, and prosperity, even in hard times.

2. Obedience Requires Trust in God's Wisdom

To obey God’s instructions, we need to trust that He knows what is best for us. There are times when God’s commands may not make sense to us or might challenge our comfort. Let's think about Abraham, who was asked to sacrifice his son Isaac (Genesis 22). In human understanding, this seemed contradictory to God’s promise of making Abraham a father of many nations. Yet, Abraham obeyed because he trusted God’s wisdom beyond his own reasoning. His obedience brought a greater blessing than he could have ever imagined.

Similarly, God’s instructions today may call us to live in ways that counter the world’s values, whether it is forgiving those who hurt us, living generously, or standing for truth when it’s unpopular. But when we obey, we show that our faith rests in God's perfect plan, trusting that His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9).

3. Obedience Requires Faithfulness, Even in Small Things

Luke 16:10 tells us, "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much." most times, God gives us small instructions that test our faithfulness. It could be something as simple as showing kindness to a stranger, making time for daily prayer, or resisting temptation in a private moment. How we respond to these small commands reflects our readiness for greater blessings and responsibilities.

It’s important to remember that delayed obedience is disobedience. When God gives us an instruction, our immediate response should be one of obedience, trusting that He will equip us for whatever He has called us to do.

4. Obedience is a Pathway to Freedom

Many people think that obeying God’s commands restricts their freedom. But the opposite is true. Obedience to God leads to true freedom. Jesus said in John 8:31-32, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Living according to God’s commands frees us from the bondage of sin, guilt, and confusion. It aligns our hearts with God’s purpose and brings peace and clarity to our lives.

Considering the Israelites in the wilderness. When they obeyed God, He provided for their needs, protected them, and led them to the Promised Land. But when they disobeyed, they experienced unnecessary hardship. Similarly, our disobedience leads us into unnecessary spiritual, emotional, and even physical challenges. But when we obey, we experience the freedom that comes with living in God’s will.

In conclusion, obedience is not always easy, but it is always worth it. When we trust God’s wisdom, remain faithful in small things, and walk in obedience, we unlock the blessings of peace, joy, provision, and purpose.

God bless you.
