Can you bear Christ's witness?

John  15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:  15:27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

The message today asks us a very personal question which is the core of our Christian faith journey. Christ promises the Holy Spirit, the Helper, who will guide and empower us to bear witness to His truth and love. But, are we ready? Are we equipped? And, more importantly, do we understand what it means to bear the witness of Christ in this world?

What we must first understand is that,  the Holy Spirit is the one who empowers us to bear witness. In verse 26, Jesus says, "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me."

Jesus doesn’t expect us to bear witness on our own strength. He knows that by ourselves, we are weak and prone to fear, doubt, and failure. That’s why He promises the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, who will testify about Christ through us. The Holy Spirit empowers us to speak boldly, to share the gospel with confidence, and to live lives that reflect Christ's love and truth.

Bearing Christ’s witness begins by receiving the Holy Spirit and yielding to His leading. The Spirit’s role is not only to testify about Jesus but to work in us so that our lives themselves become a testimony. We bear witness not only with our words but with the way we live, the way we love others, and the way we stand for truth in a world often hostile to it.

Furthermore, we are called to be witnesses In verse 27, Jesus continues, “And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.” This statement speaks of a shared responsibility. Jesus was speaking directly to His disciples here, those who had walked with Him, seen His miracles, and heard His teachings. Yet this call extends to all who follow Christ. If we have experienced Christ's love, if we know His saving grace, then we, too, are called to bear witness.

It’s not just for pastors, evangelists, or missionaries. Every believer is a witness. The moment we commit our lives to Christ, we become ambassadors of His Kingdom. But what kind of witnesses are we? Do our lives tell a compelling story of God’s grace? Are we consistent in living out our faith in every aspect of our lives—at work, at home, in our communities?

Being a witness isn’t just about sharing Bible verses or theological arguments. It’s about living out the transformative power of Christ in a way that people can see the difference He makes. We are witnesses in how we treat others, how we forgive those who wrong us, and how we stand for justice, truth, and love.

Nevertheless, being a witness of Christ comes with it's own challenges. Being a witness means standing firm in our faith, even when it’s unpopular or inconvenient. It means speaking the truth in love, even when it costs us relationships or opportunities. It means representing Christ in a culture that often opposes His values. And let’s be honest—this can be intimidating. But remember, we are not alone. The Helper, the Holy Spirit, is with us.

Finally, there is an urgency to this call. The world is in desperate need of the hope that only Christ can give. People are searching for meaning, for truth, for peace, and we have the answer—Jesus Christ.

As His followers, we are the light of the world, and we must shine that light in the darkness. Every day, we encounter people who may never step into a church, people who may never open a Bible, but they can see Christ in us.

Are we willing to speak about Christ even when it’s uncomfortable? Are we willing to share the hope of the gospel with those who are lost, broken, or far from God? Time is short, and the harvest is plentiful. Let us not waste any opportunity to testify of the love and grace of Jesus Christ.

In conclusion, the question still beckons on us today, can you bear Christ’s witness? The answer is yes, but only through the power of the Holy Spirit. You don’t have to be perfect or have all the answers. You simply need to be willing. When you open yourself to the Spirit’s leading, God will use you in ways you never imagined.

God bless you.
