Being patient with what we've not seen
Romans 8:25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
Our scripture passage today centers around the hope that believers have in the promises of God. This hope isn’t based on what we currently see or experience, but on the assurance of God’s word.
Most times, we are often tempted to only trust what we can see with our eyes, touch with our hands, or comprehend with our minds. But faith calls us to something deeper. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that “faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Patience becomes the bridge between our present reality and the fulfillment of what we hope for in Christ. It is an act of trusting God’s timing even when the evidence of His promises is not yet visible.
Patience is active faith in motion. In the waiting, God is doing a transformative work within us. James 1:3-4 tells us that the testing of our faith produces perseverance, and perseverance must finish its work so that we may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.
When we are asked to wait for something we have not seen, whether it is a breakthrough in a personal matter, the resolution of a long-standing issue, or the fulfillment of a divine promise, we must remember that God is shaping our character. Patience teaches us humility and dependence on God. It refines our hearts, making us more like Christ, who patiently endured the cross for the joy set before Him.
Furthermore, even though we cannot see it, God is always working behind the scenes. The delay we experience does not mean denial. Sometimes, God's timeline doesn’t align with our expectations, but we must trust that His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9).
In the life of Joseph, we see how God used years of uncertainty and hardship to prepare him for the destiny He had planned. Joseph didn’t see the outcome during his time in the pit or the prison, but he patiently trusted in God’s plan. In the end, what Joseph couldn’t see for years came to fruition as God elevated him to a position of influence and purpose. In the same way, God is working in your life, even if you can’t yet perceive it.
In conclusion, let us remember that being patient with what we have not seen is a great act of faith. It requires us to trust in God’s promises, even when our circumstances seem uncertain. In your moments of waiting, remember that God is faithful. He has not forgotten you, and His promises are sure. Let patience have its perfect work in you, as you eagerly wait for the fulfillment of what you have not yet seen, knowing that in God’s perfect timing, it will come to pass.
Gos bless you.
