Holy Ghost shall teach you all to say
Luke 12:11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: 12:12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus speaks to His disciples about the challenges they will face as they go out to preach the Good News. He knew they would be brought before religious leaders, judges, and authorities, questioned, and persecuted for their faith. Jesus knew the fears His followers would face and their sense of inadequacy, especially when their lives were on the line.
But He gave a reassuring promise for them—and for us. Jesus says, "Do not worry." You don’t have to rehearse or overthink. The Holy Spirit will be with you to teach you in the moment, to give you wisdom, courage, and the very words you need.
The Role of the Holy Spirit
So who is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is not just a source of power, but a person of the God head, He is God present with us. He is our Comforter, our Teacher, our Guide.
When we are baptized in the Spirit, He begins a lifelong work in us, shaping, guiding, and helping us walk in truth. Jesus told His disciples in John 14:26, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost… shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
The Spirit’s work isn’t just about imparting knowledge; He enables us to experience God’s love, to walk in faith, and to proclaim the truth of Jesus boldly. When Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will teach us what to say, He is giving us assurance that we don’t have to face our battles alone.
Why We Need the Holy Spirit to Speak
When we share the gospel, when we stand up for our faith, when we’re called to give an account for our beliefs, it’s easy to feel unqualified. We may wonder if we have enough knowledge or if our words will have any impact.
Yet, the Holy Spirit fills these gaps. He speaks through us with a wisdom that surpasses human understanding, a power that penetrates hearts, and a love that reflects the heart of God.
Let's think of the apostle Peter. This was a man who had denied Jesus three times, yet on the day of Pentecost, after being filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter stood and preached boldly to thousands, and about 3,000 souls were saved that day. It was the Holy Spirit who equipped him with the courage and the words to speak.
Furthermore, Jesus invites us to trust and depend on the Holy Spirit, especially in times of pressure, fear, or uncertainty. We don’t need to have everything figured out; we simply need to be surrendered to God, to have our hearts and minds open to His Spirit.
But remember, this doesn’t mean we should neglect studying Scripture or preparing ourselves in other ways. We should read, learn, and grow in God’s Word. But when the time comes, we rely on the Holy Spirit to use our preparation, or to speak something new.
What we need to do.
1. Stay Filled with the Spirit – To be guided by the Spirit, we must be filled with the Spirit. Pray daily, seek God’s presence, and be open to His guidance in every moment.
2. Trust God’s Timing – Jesus said the Holy Spirit will give us words "in the same hour." Don’t rush; wait on the Spirit. He will bring the words at the right time.
3. Pray for Boldness – It’s natural to feel nervous, but remember that the Spirit can empower us with boldness, just as He did with Peter. Pray for the courage to stand for Christ.
4. Surrender Your Worries – Jesus specifically tells us not to worry about how we will answer. Worry is a form of control; it shows that we’re relying on ourselves. Instead, let’s surrender to God and trust in His Spirit’s wisdom.
5. Stay in the Word – The Holy Spirit can remind us of Scripture and truths we've read, but we need to feed our minds with God’s Word so He can draw from that in the moment.
In conclusion, we have an incredible gift in the Holy Spirit, who is not just present with us but actively working through us. let us walk in faith, trusting in the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit.
God bless you.
