To die is a great gain
Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Death is not something to be feared as believers, but something that should be embraced with great hope and expectation.
For the Apostle Paul, death was not the end, but a new beginning. He knew that through his faith in Jesus Christ, he would be reunited with his Savior and Lord in heaven. And this is the same hope that we have today, as believers in Christ.
We live in a world that often sees death as something to be feared and avoided at all costs. But for those of us who have put our faith in Jesus Christ, death holds no fear. We know that death is not the end, but the beginning of a new life in Christ.
In fact, Paul goes so far as to say that death is gain. This may seem like a strange statement to those who view death as a loss, but for the Christian, death is gain because it brings us into the very presence of God.
When we die, we leave behind all the struggles and hardships of this life and enter into the joy of our Lord. We are reunited with loved ones who have gone before us, and we experience the fullness of God's love and grace.
Of course, this does not mean that we should seek out death or view our time on earth as something to be endured until we can finally escape to heaven. On the contrary, as Paul reminds us, "to live is Christ." Our time on earth is a precious gift from God, and we should use it to serve Him and love others.
But when the time comes for us to leave this world, we can do so with confidence and hope, knowing that we are going to a better place. We can say with Paul, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
So let us not fear death, but embrace it with hope and expectation. Let us live our lives for Christ, serving Him and loving others, and when the time comes, let us go to our heavenly home with joy and peace, knowing that we are entering into the fullness of God's love and grace.
God bless you.
