The God we serve
Daniel 3:17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
In the verse above, we see a remarkable example of faith in God that we can learn from. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were faced with a difficult choice: bow down to the image of gold or face death in the fiery furnace.
They chose to trust in the God they served, even if it meant facing a painful and terrifying death. And in doing so, they discovered that the God they served was not only able to save them, but also worthy of their worship and praise.
In verse 17, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego declare their faith in God, saying, "If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty's hand."
They did not waver in their faith, even when faced with the threat of death. They knew that the God they served was powerful enough to save them, and they trusted in Him completely.
And in verses 28-29, we see the amazing result of their faith. After being thrown into the fiery furnace, they were not consumed by the flames. Instead, they were walking around unharmed, with a fourth person who appeared to be "a son of the gods."
When they were called out of the furnace, they emerged without a single hair on their heads singed, their clothes not even scorched. It was a miraculous demonstration of the power and protection of the God they served.
But their faith was not just in the God who could save them from physical harm. It was also in the God who was worthy of their worship and devotion.
As they stood before King Nebuchadnezzar, they declared, "We do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty's hand.
But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up."
They were willing to face death rather than compromise their faith in the one true God. They knew that He was worthy of their loyalty and devotion, even if it meant facing persecution and death.
So what can we learn from this example of faith? First, we can be confident in the God we serve. Just as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego trusted in God's power to save them from the fiery furnace, we too can trust in His power to save us from whatever challenges we may face in life.
He is a God who is able to do immeasurably more than we could ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20), and we can have faith in His ability to work in our lives.
Second, we can worship the God we serve with all our hearts. Just as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were willing to face death rather than worship false gods, we too can choose to worship God with our whole lives. We can give Him our praise and adoration, our loyalty and devotion, knowing that He alone is worthy of it.
So let us take heart from the example of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and put our faith in the God we serve. Let us trust in His power to save us, and worship Him with all our hearts.
God bless you
