The Lord's mercy
Lamentations 3:22 It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
Prophet Jeremiah expressed his heartfelt during a time of great turmoil and sorrow for the people of Israel. They had been exiled from their homeland, and their city lay in ruins.
Despite this, Jeremiah recognized that the Lord's mercy had not abandoned them. It was because of the Lord's great love that they had not been consumed.
The Lord's mercy is something that we should never take for granted. It is an expression of His great love for us, and it is the reason why we are not destroyed by our own sin and the consequences of living in a fallen world.
The Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 2:4-5, "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved."
When we consider the Lord's mercy, we should be filled with gratitude and awe. It is not something that we can earn or deserve, but it is freely given to us through faith in Jesus Christ. It is because of the Lord's mercy that we have hope for the future, and it is the foundation of our faith.
But we must also remember that the Lord's mercy is not a license to sin. Paul goes on to say in Romans 6:1-2, "What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?"
We must strive to live a life that is pleasing to God, and we must not take His mercy for granted. We should be constantly seeking to grow in our faith and to become more like Christ.
When we fail, as we inevitably will, we can take comfort in knowing that the Lord's mercy is always available to us. We can confess our sins and receive forgiveness because of the great love and compassion of our Heavenly Father.
Let us always remember the words of Lamentations 3:22, "Because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail." Let us be grateful for the Lord's mercy and seek to live a life that honours Him.
God bless you.
