More than conquerors
Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
Apostle Paul was speaking to the church at Rome concerning the trials a believer would face and endure through the journey of faith
He himself endured countless trials and tribulations for the sake of the gospel. He knew what it was like to face hardship and persecution, but he also knew that nothing could separate him from the love of Christ.
And so, he goes on to say in verse 37: "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us." This is a powerful statement, and one that we should take to heart as we navigate the ups and downs of life.
To be more than conquerors means that we are not just victorious, but that we are overwhelmingly victorious. It means that we have a strength and a resilience that comes from knowing that we are loved by God and that nothing can separate us from his love.
But what are the "things" that Paul is referring to? He lists them in verse 35: trouble, hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, and sword. These are all very real and very difficult trials that we may face in our lives. We may experience financial hardship, relationship problems, health issues, or even persecution for our faith.
But Paul is saying that even in the midst of these trials, we can be more than conquerors through Christ. We can have a peace that surpasses all understanding, a joy that is not dependent on our circumstances, and a hope that anchors us in the midst of the storm.
So how do we become more than conquerors? First, we need to have faith in Christ. We need to believe that he is who he says he is, and that he has the power to overcome any trial or hardship we may face. We need to trust in his love for us, even when we can't see the way forward.
Second, we need to stay connected to Christ through prayer and reading his Word. This is how we receive the strength and wisdom we need to face the challenges of life. When we spend time with God, we are reminded of his promises and his faithfulness, and we are filled with his peace and his joy.
And third, we need to stay connected to our brothers and sisters in Christ. We need to surround ourselves with people who will encourage us, pray for us, and hold us accountable. When we have a community of believers around us, we are reminded that we are not alone in our struggles, and we can draw strength from each other.
Let us remember that we are more than conquerors through Christ. No matter what trials or hardships we may face, we can have the confidence that comes from knowing that we are loved by God and that nothing can separate us from his love.
God bless you.
