An Excellent Spirit
Daniel 6:3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. 6:4 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
Having an excellent spirit is to be the outstanding and extraordinary person that God has created you to be
Daniel’s story begins in scripture when King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon invaded and conquered Judah and captured Jerusalem, taking part of the vessels of gold and silver that belonged to the temple and placed those same sacred vessels in the temple of his own idol gods.
As a young teenager, Daniel and many of his friends were all taken to Babylon as captives, to be trained in the ways of the Babylonians and become personal servants to the King.
Right from the start of the story we are given clues to help us understand how Daniel developed his excellent spirit. The Babylonian King wanted only the best of the Hebrew children to be trained in his kingdom.
Of course, Nebuchadnezzar and his master eunuch were not looking at Daniel and his friends from a spiritual point of view. All they were looking for were children with perfect bodies and perfect minds.
But if we look at him through a spiritual point of view, we will understand that Daniel was more extraordinary among his peers because of the spirit of excellence in him.
This was not just possible because of his beauty, handsomeness or being intellectual, but because of his personal conviction about God and unwavering faith in Him.
He refused to defile his body with the kings meat, he identified himself with God Jehovah and was ready to face any consequences that may result from his decision.
His actions were exceptional and moved God, thus, he was given the spirit of excellence so much that when he was fact checked by the chiefs of nebuchadnezzar to find fault in him, he was found without fault.
