Our God gives the ability to produce wealth
Deuteronomy 8:18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
People strive to achieve financial security, success in business, and prosperity in their homes. However, there is a fundamental truth that sometimes gets overlooked in this pursuit: the true source of our ability to produce wealth is not merely our intellect, hard work, or strategies, but God Himself.
In our scripture passage today, Moses was speaking to the people of Israel who are about to enter the Promised Land. After years of wandering in the desert, they are about to experience abundance and prosperity. But Moses warns them not to forget the Lord when they experience success.
Similarly, when we find ourselves in positions of prosperity, it is easy to become self-reliant or believe that our success is solely the result of our own efforts. But Moses’ words remind us that everything we have comes from God. The strength, knowledge, and opportunities we have to produce wealth are gifts from Him.
James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.” Our creativity, intelligence, and opportunities are given by God. We must humbly recognize that without His enabling, we would not have the ability to produce or sustain wealth.
God wants us to understand that He is the ultimate source. He blesses us with abilities, skills, and the wisdom necessary to prosper. When we acknowledge this, we are able to keep our hearts aligned with His purpose for our lives and for our wealth.
God's Wealth comes With a Purpose
The verse continues, "and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors."
This reveals that God's blessing of wealth is tied to His covenant with His people. The wealth He gives is not merely for personal gain or comfort but has a greater purpose, to establish His covenant, His promises, on the earth.
God made a covenant with Abraham, promising to bless him and to make him a blessing to all nations. This covenant was not just about the material blessings but also about fulfilling God's plan to use His people as a conduit of His grace and blessing to others.
- When God blesses us with wealth, we must ask: What is His purpose in this blessing?
- We are called to be stewards of what God has given us, using our resources to serve others, advance His kingdom, and honor Him in all things.
Our wealth is not just for personal enjoyment but to be used for God's purposes in the world. We are blessed to be a blessing. Whether through giving to the needy, supporting missions, or contributing to the building of God’s church, we are partners with God in His redemptive plan.
Furthermore, since God is the source of our ability to produce wealth, we have a responsibility to use that wealth in ways that honor Him. This means recognizing that we are stewards, not owners, of the resources He has given us.
Proverbs 3:9** says, "Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops."
- By giving back to God through our tithes, offerings, and acts of generosity, we acknowledge that all we have comes from Him.
When we use our wealth to glorify God and advance His kingdom, we show our gratitude and faithfulness. When we honor God with what we have, He is able to entrust us with more.
In conclusion, let us remember that God is the source of all we have. He gives us the ability to produce wealth, not just for our own benefit but to fulfill His purposes and establish His covenant on the earth.
May we honor God with our wealth, live as faithful stewards of His blessings, and trust in His provision in all things. When we recognize that God is the giver of all good things, we can live in humility, gratitude, and generosity, fulfilling His will in our lives and in the world around us.
God bless you.
