God is light

1 John  2:9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.  2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.  2:11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

The scripture made us understand that God is light, this light is symbolizing His holiness, purity, and truth. Light reveals, guides, and brings life. In contrast, darkness often represents sin, ignorance, and separation from God.

There is  a clear distinction between those who claim to walk in the light and those who actually do. To walk in the light means to live in the truth of God, to follow His commandments, and to reflect His love in our actions.

Apostle John warns us that it is not enough to claim we know God or that we are walking in His light. The true test of living in the light is shown through our love for others.

Verse 9 speaks of those who claim to be in the light but harbor hatred toward others. Such a person is still in darkness. This is a humbling truth. We can attend church, read Scripture, and even profess our faith, but if we carry hatred in our hearts, we are not truly walking in the light.

Hatred blinds us, leading us away from God and His purposes for our lives. When we hold onto resentment, bitterness, or malice, we are cut off from the clarity and purity of God's light. Darkness brings confusion, isolation, and blindness to the things of God. It hinders our spiritual growth and leads us away from the path of righteousness.

The Evidence of Living in the Light (God) is love.

verse 10 tells us that "Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light." Love is the clearest sign of a heart transformed by God. Jesus Himself said, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:35). Love is the ultimate expression of God’s nature. If we are walking in His light, we will naturally reflect that love in our relationships.

Loving others as God loves us is not always easy. We live in a world where people can hurt, betray, and disappoint us. Yet, God calls us to a higher standard, a love that goes beyond human emotions and is rooted in His grace. To live in the light means to love even when it is difficult, to forgive even when we have been wronged, and to seek reconciliation rather than division.

Walking in darkness

Darkness Blinds, darkness leads to spiritual confusion. When we walk in darkness, we stumble, fall, and lose our way. Without the light of God's love guiding us, we become spiritually blind, unable to discern what is right and wrong. This blindness affects not only our relationship with God but also our relationship with others.

Many people today live in a state of spiritual darkness, not because they have rejected the light, but because they have allowed hatred, bitterness, and unforgiveness to cloud their hearts. John is urging us to examine our hearts and ensure that we are not blinded by darkness.

In conclusion, God is light, and in Him, there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). If we are to truly live in His light, we must be people of love. Love is the evidence that we are walking in the light. Hatred, on the other hand, is a sign that we are still in darkness, no matter how much we may claim to know God.

God bless you.
