No evil shall befall thee
Psalms 91:10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 91:11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
From our scripture passage today, God assures us that no evil will overtake us or destroy us when we are hidden under His covering. However, this does not mean that we will never face trials, challenges, or difficulties in life. Rather, it means that nothing can truly harm our soul or separate us from the love and plan of God.
Evil may try to surround us, but it will not prevail. Psalm 34:19 reminds us, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” God doesn’t promise a life free from trouble, but He does promise victory.
The word "evil" in this verse refers to ultimate harm. With God’s protection, no weapon formed against us shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Whether it is sickness, persecution, or financial hardship, these things may touch our lives, but they will not destroy us. God is a shield around us.
As believers, we must walk with this confidence. When we face uncertainty or fear, let us remind ourselves that we are under the protective hand of God. His power is greater than any circumstance we face. We are not vulnerable; we are protected by the Creator of the universe.
In verse 11, we are told, “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” This verse unveils the unseen reality that God has dispatched heavenly beings to watch over us. Angels are not mere symbolic figures; they are real, active, and on assignment from God. Their role is to guard and guide us in every situation.
Let us examine the story of Daniel in the lions’ den (Daniel 6). When Daniel was thrown into a pit full of lions, God's angel shut the mouths of the lions, protecting him from harm. Similarly, Elisha’s servant in 2 Kings 6 was terrified when surrounded by enemy armies, but when Elisha prayed, his servant’s eyes were opened to see the mountain filled with horses and chariots of fire. God’s angels were already in position, ready to defend.
This promise should fill us with confidence. Even when we cannot see, we are surrounded by God's heavenly host. The angels are there to protect, to fight battles we cannot see, and to keep us from harm.
As we go through life, we need to acknowledge and give thanks for the ministry of angels. They are part of God's provision for our protection. When fear tries to creep in, we must remember that we are never alone. God's angels stand ready to intervene at His command.
Finally, The promises of protection, of no evil coming near, are connected to those who choose to dwell in God’s presence. This speaks of an intimate, ongoing relationship with God. It is not about visiting His presence occasionally, but living and abiding in Him.
Dwelling in God’s presence means spending time in prayer, studying His Word, and aligning our hearts with His. It is a lifestyle of faith and dependence on Him. When we make the Lord our refuge and fortress, He becomes our place of safety.
God’s protection flows from our relationship with Him. When we dwell with Him, we are covered by His presence. And even when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we can fear no evil because God is with us.
I'm conclusion, let us walk with confidence, knowing that we are covered by the hand of Almighty God. No evil shall befall you. No plague shall come near your home. Trust in His promises, abide in His presence, and live in the assurance that He is your refuge and fortress. Amen.
God bless you.
