God doesn't bless empty hands

Deuteronomy  28:12 The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.

God, not blessing empty hands does not translate that He is unwilling to bless us, He is a generous God, always willing to open the storehouses of heaven. But God blesses the work of our hands, the efforts  we put in, and the faith we express through action. Our scripture, Deuteronomy 28:12, reveals this truth, showing that God's blessings flow when we are actively engaged in His work.

Truths we should know

1. God's Blessings Are Conditional on Our Efforts
Deuteronomy 28:12 speaks of God’s promise to “bless all the work of your hands.” This is important because it shows that God expects us to do something. Many times, we ask God for blessings, provision, and favor, but we present Him with empty hands, hands that haven't worked, hands that haven't sown, hands that haven’t acted in faith. We must remember that while God is sovereign and powerful, He often uses our efforts  as a channel for His blessings.

Let us consider the farmer. He can pray all he wants for rain, but if he hasn't planted any seeds, what will the rain bring forth? Nothing! God will send the rain, but we need to make sure we have prepared the soil and sown the seed.

2. Work is an Expression of Faith
James 2:17 reminds us that "faith without works is dead." In the same way, when we expect God to bless us, we must be willing to show our faith by working toward what we are asking Him to do. We can't sit idly by and expect everything to be handed to us without effort. Our hands cannot be idle; they must be put to the plow.

God calls us to partnership with Him. He has the power to bring increase, but we have the responsibility to be faithful stewards. Whatever He has placed in your hands—whether it's your job, your family, your ministry—God is watching how you manage it. When you are faithful in little, He will bless you with more (Luke 16:10).

3. God Multiplies What We Offer
In the Gospels, we see the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000 (Matthew 14:13-21). Jesus took five loaves and two fish, a small offering from a boy's hands—and multiplied it to feed a multitude. God is not asking for perfection or abundance; He simply asks for something, even if it seems small, so He can bless it.

The key is offering something. When we bring our skills, our efforts, our time, and our resources, even in small amounts, God has the power to multiply them beyond what we can imagine. But notice again—Jesus didn’t multiply nothing; He multiplied what was given to Him.

4. Our Hands Are Instruments of God's Blessing to Others
The verse goes on to say, "You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none." This promise reminds us that God doesn't bless us only for our own benefit. His blessing on the work of our hands is meant to overflow and bless others. God blesses us to be a blessing, to share the abundance He provides.

We cannot be a blessing with empty hands. We cannot lend, give, or serve if we have not first put in the work to receive God’s blessings. Our diligent efforts, guided by God's wisdom, become the means by which we can fulfill His purpose in the lives of others.

5. Trust God for the Increase, But Do Your Part
The final point is this: while we must do our part, we must also trust God for the increase. There will be times when we’ve worked, and we don’t immediately see the fruit of our labor. But the rain comes in season. The storehouse of God’s blessing will open at the appointed time.

Ecclesiastes 11:6 says, “Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.” Our responsibility is to keep our hands busy, trusting that in God’s timing, the harvest will come.

In conclusion, If you want to see God’s blessings in your life, you must be willing to step out in faith, take action, and work diligently in whatever He has called you to do. Don't just pray for rain, plant your seed, and when the rain comes, you will see the abundant harvest He has promised.

God bless you.
