Resisting Temptations

Romans  6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.  6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Temptation is a universal experience. We all face it in various forms and at different times in our lives. It's essential to understand that temptation is not a sin in itself. In Romans 6:12, Paul reminds us of this: "Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires."

Temptation is an invitation to sin, a choice we make. But we must remember that we have the power, through Christ, to say no to temptation.

Romans 6:11 says, "In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus." This verse emphasizes our identification with Christ's death and resurrection. By identifying with Christ, we gain the strength to resist temptation.

Our old selves, enslaved to sin, have been crucified with Christ, and we are made new through His resurrection. Through this identification with Christ, we can claim victory over the power of sin.

God's grace is the key to overcoming temptation. Romans 6:14 declares, "For sin shall no longer be your master because you are not under the law but under grace." Grace is the unmerited favor of God, and it empowers us to live a life pleasing to Him.

When we rely on God's grace, we have the strength to resist temptation. It's not by our own effort but by God's grace that we can overcome. We must daily seek His grace through prayer, reading His Word, and staying connected to Him.

Practical Steps to Overcome Temptation

1.  Prayer: Engage in fervent prayer, asking God for strength and guidance when faced with temptation.

 2. Scripture: Meditate on God's Word, as Jesus did when tempted in the wilderness. Scripture provides the wisdom and guidance we need.

  3. Accountability: Share your struggles with a trusted brother or sister in Christ who can support and pray for you.

4. Flee: When faced with strong temptation, follow Joseph's example and flee from it.

5. Replace: Replace sinful desires with godly ones. Seek righteousness, purity, and love.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, We have the power of Christ's identification, the incredible grace of God, and practical tools to overcome. Temptation may knock at our door, but we don't have to let it in.
